Oil change took almost 8 qts (HEMI)

Hey guys I just changed my oil and it took all 7 qts like it says on wkjeeps.com but then it wasnt full at all, took almost 3/4 of one more quart to fill it, anyone else experience this?

some other important facts: yes I started the engine and revved it a bit then shut it off and left it off for more than 1 minute and checked, also it is on very level ground. I pre-oiled the filter, made sure the old seal wasnt on etc, i've changed my oil (on other vehicles) many times before, just not on this one.:confused::confused:

P.S. 7 qts of quaker state full synthetic and the last quart was penzoil platinum full synthetic

Mine ALWAYS takes that much. Its a HEMI, they are thirsty for oil and gas. :D

In the future, you may not want to put two or more different types of oil in your engine. Did you put the new oil in your car before or after you removed the old oil filter?

I've always been told that it may take up to 30 minutes of standing before an oil level can be accurately checked. I recently changed my oil.... 5 quarts of Valvoline SynPower. And sadly I cannot even enjoy running synthetic at the moment. :(

Thanks guys! yeah I removed the old filter first and I wouldnt normally mix oil like that but I had this 'emergency' quart in the back I had to use. I bought the quaker state on sale and only got 7 qts as specified on the website :( SO Elvis how much exactly does yours take? the full 8 quarts or 80% of the 8th one like mine?

you probably let it drain better than a mechanic or oil change facility would let it....thats probably the difference.

on my mustang the manual said 6 quarts but it always needed 6 and 1/2 so i would do 6 quarts of mobile 1 plus 1 bottle of stp and that was usually perfect

Agreed. Those 10 minute lube jobs always have a down side to it

Whenever I change my own oil, I always make sure that absolutely NOTHING drips anymore. So it usually takes a while for it all to drain out.

When I start up my engine, it usually ticks for about a second or two, then runs like normal. I never hear that noise when the dealer does.

5 quarts fills up my 3.7L exactly.
