Closer look at the new 3.0 turbo diesel

A closer look under the Turbo Diesel Grand Cherokee hood!
The new 3.0-litre turbo diesel engine produces 177 kW at 4,000 rpm with 550 Nm o...f torque at 1,800-2,800 rpm. This translates to 10% more power and 8% more torque than the engine it replaces. Fuel economy for the new 3.0-litre turbo diesel engine is 8.3 L/100km on the combined cycle, an improvement of 19% over the prior diesel engine. CO2 emissions (combined cycle) are also reduced by 20%, now at 218 g/km.

Fuel economy for the turbo diesel engine is rated at 10.3 L/100 km on the urban cycle and 7.2 L/100 km on the extra-urban cycle.

While we're talking unnatural units of measure, how much is that in gills/furlong?

I got 32.668692 mpg with my calculations.

Converted -

28.35 MPG on the combined cycle

22.85 MPG on the urban cycle

32.67 MPG on the extra urban

All figures that none of the gas engines will ever touch in the real world imo..... and in my experience, diesel manufacturer figures are more easily obtained than manufaturer's figures for gas engines, because most people drive diesels using torque at small throttle openings versus gas engines and revs.
Basically, diesels tend to promote a relaxed driving style.

Does anyone know where I can get technical details about he DFP system that they are running ?
I am trying to find out what system they have gone with and also the service requirements. Apparently the new diesels have problems with lots of short trips as it cannot burn the soot out of the DFP.

Yeah that's been somewhat of an issue since the intro of particulate filters, although as time has passed most realise that it's a simple matter of getting the vehicle out for a damned good thrashing every so often.

I hear a lot of the time the dealers just send the apprentice out in it for 20 minutes! lol (Just like Ferrari dealers that are in need of an "apprentice tune") :D
