A/C Compressor not engaging!

I have an '06 WK Overland with the 5.7L HEMI...
Over this past winter I had to replace my radiator. While cruising down the highway the car infront of me kicked up a large truck tire thread which wrapped up under my bumper and pierced the lower plastic portion of my radiator. In the process of replacing my radiator in the mioddle of winter I accidently kinked/pierced one of the aluminum A/C lines. It's the 'liquid line' which is a smaller aluminum line which runs from the accumulator just below the large low-pressure hose and back to the firewall.

I just replaced the line and attempted to recharge the system from the low-pressure port. I couldn't accurately check the system pressure as the compressor was not engaging (am I correct that the compressor needs to be engaged to accurately check the pressure?), but I did get just about the recommended amount of R134 into the system (approx. 34oz.). I believe the compressor did engage while I first started recharging the system as I could hear it squeel. Since then and after recharging the system I'm still not getting any cold air as the compressor is not engaging. I can easily turn the compressor by hand so it doesn't seem to be seized. I removed the A/C clutch relay and tried using a jumper wire to engage the clutch/compressor but with the 5 prongs on the relay I wasnt sure which ones to jump together. I tried different combinations with a jumper wire but nothing worked and the compressor clutch is still not engaging.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm stooped

Re: A/C Compressor not engaging!

After you changed the line you vaccumed it out, right? You dont want any "air" in there and you want to see that it can hold the vaccum(check the seal). Did you check that the wiring didn't get messed up from the tire? If you have a meter you can check the different sensors- high & low press and see if thats whats holding it out.If you dont have a meter, you could use a jumper across the plug for the sensor- just to see whats holding it out.
Yes the compressor needs to be running to properly check the pressure and see how "full" it is.With it off all a gauge will tell you is if there is refridgerent in there.(Well ,you can tell if there is WAY too much, or WAY too little)

There definitely isn't any messed up wiring, so I'm good on that.
After replacing the line I definitely did NOT vaccuum it out. How would I go about doing that exactly? (Sounds like all the refrigerant I just put in there will now go to waste)

Where are the high and low pressure sensors exactly?
Which plug would I be doing a jumper? I figured it woul be where the relay is in the distribution block, but I couldn't figure out which of the 5 pins to jump and after trying all combinations it didn't do anything at all.

Please bare with me on this, this is the first time I'm working on A/C and I'm completely lost even though I've always done my own work. So it's a bit frustrating that something so stupid isn't working for me. I may just have to drop it off at an hvac shop and be done with it (bangs head against wall)

without gauges and a proper vacuum pump all you are doing is wasting the freon and the ozone layer as well as your time and money/

bite the bullet and get it serviced properly.

most places will run the vaccum to test for leaks first so if it leaks they do not just WASTE any freon. they MAY also try and evacuate what you put in if they can/

X2. That would be best. You don't want to run it with air and/or moisture in there. You may even need a new dryer(filter).

Sorry about that, I posted the thread on several different forums and didn't realize I had posted it twice in different sections on here.
