radio help needed... please!

sorry for the repost, i started a thread in the other section but i didn't receive much of a response...

i'm desperately wanting to replace my stock radio with a single din pioneer that plays music from sd cards. i've spent the last few days researching the options but i'm still none-the-wiser. i even spoke to halfords and dynamic audio and they couldn't help me :(

i'm trying to figure out if i need a harness to connect up a standard radio, or whether i can just take the power from the cigarette lighter. please bare in mind i have the boston acoustics amp in the boot. i have spent hours looking for a suitable harness in the uk by looking on connects2 and audioleads web sites but i can't seem to find anything suitable for a 2005 GC. there seems to be more info on usa sites, but i'm still not 100% sure what i need to order (i won't be using audio buttons on the steering wheel, or sat nav etc... i just need power and aerial to the new radio)

surely someone else must have done something similar and can point a noob in the right direction?

thanks in advance

Yes, you can use the power off the cigarette lighter! Make sure you tap into the accesory outlet though so the stereo will turn off when you shut off the truck. The amp will trigger fine with the remote turn on lead from the stereo connected to it. I have tested this in my own 05 and it works but i really like the retained accessory power so i went with the data module. You also need to make sure you tape off the data wire so it does not ground out on anything!!!! If it does your dash will light up like a christmas tree and the truck will not run!

Good luck

Re: radio help needed... please!

thanks 05wkguy

after reading more, i would rather go with the harness option if at all possible. i have been on crutchfield and it recommends a C2R-CHY4 but it seems a bit overkill for what i need as it allows you to keep the steering wheel controls etc, but i don't need that! i don't fancy paying through the nose getting it imported from the usa etc

isn't there a half-way-house solution? i.e. not tapping in to the power socket, but also not buying a full-blown harness with functions that i don't need?

isn't there just a cheapo harness that allows you to power up the radio/amp alone?
