2011 J.D. Power Ratings for WK2

J.D. Power findings for the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee are now at:
http://www.jdpower.com/autos/Jeep/Gr...1/SUV/ratings/

All ratings are average except for one (powertrain quality design), which is below average, and another that's above average (body interior quality design). Could be worse, but it's hardly a sterling report card.

It'll be interesting to see what TrueDelta reports, presumably next month. Personally, I have more confidence in them than Power.

2011 Grand Cherokee did much better than the 2011 Porsche Cayenne.

Wow.

Sweet.

It's an all new vehicle on a heavily reworked platform and an all-new engine (V6 anyways). It's going to have some teething issues, but so far nothing major seems to have popped up.

seems like JD has highlighted some of the driveline issues that members here have expressed concern in.

Most manufacturers have issues during the first year production. The question is whether the issues are significant enough to wait for a newer model or switch brands. For the WK2 it seems the reoccurring issues are with the smart key and air suspension. Since I wanted an Overland, I was going to wait for a MY12 thinking that it would have the engineering updates. But I will take a chance with a MY11 which was built May-11.

The Durango did extremely well. I'm no expert but it seems logical the later intro of the Dodge allowed it to avoid issues seen in early GCs. If this is true the 2012 GC should be very solid.

On the other hand, the consumer report review was much more flattering. Who knows how these people come up with this stuff. I trust my own review. Its solid, well thought out, and has a ton of features for the money. On top of that it is nicer looking than the Audi Q7, BMW X5 and the Mercedes ML350. I think 15 years from now the MK2 will be a classic. When my pentastar craps out in 300K miles I will drop 5K and put another engine in. Thats the plan anyway.

^Ditto this. Many Audi owners in my neighborhood have commented how much they like the looks of the WK2 vs the competition. Even my friend/neighbor with his Q7 has been visiting the Jeep dealer according to his wife.....gotta love that.

My jeep has been just fine. Wouldn't trade it in for a million bucks. All right maybe a million but then I'd buy a 2012.

I'm surprised that the interior quality scored so high and the powertrain quality was so low.

I really don't think the powertrain is a result of the V-6; from the sample at this site, it sure looks like the Hemi folks have many more issues (usually the shudder) than the Pentastar owners.

In my vehicle, the powertrain has been great. It's the interior that has been problematic; several very minor glitches that never should have made it past quality control have required trips to the dealer. Right now I'm waiting on a part for the front passenger seatbelt (a bad D-ring in there), and I've been waiting for about two months now.

There's a lot I love about my WK2, BUT, and I hate to say it, there's some little annoyances that are just unforgivable. While I'd consider buying another if this thing disappeared tomorrow, I can't say for sure that I would, and that's not a great testimonial.
