Paint Issues
Is anyone experiencing problems with paint cracking? The Bright Silver metallic paint on my GC Laredo X is beginning to crack on the front bumper (cover) near the passenger side fog light. Dealer got approval from Chrysler to repaint and appointment was set for 6/20. I'm was a little hesitant about having my 7 month old vehicle (3000 miles) painted by a local body shop. Had problems with Ford paint about 20 years ago. They (the actual dealer - not a 3rd party) painted the bumper (cover) 3 times and the paint never stuck.

Dropped Jeep off on Monday (6/20) morning and was told the car would be driven to the body shop (not flat bedded), the bumper would be removed, and the car would be ready in 3 days. On Friday - 5 days later - I got a call saying the Jeep was ready for pick up. I arrived Saturday and found my car in the back of the lot. The repaint was miserable. Several inches of tape line were evident and there was overspray and small blobs of paint on the lower air dam. They did not spray the entire bumper - only a couple of inches. Not only didn't they remove the bumper, the didn't even bother to remove the air dam (7 fasteners - 1/4 turn each - per the owner's manual). Told Service Adviser I was unhappy with the repaint. He said he would take care of it and would call on Monday (today) afternoon. I called the Service Dept this morning and asked for the Service Manager. I was told he was unavailable, he was aware of my concern and he would call me back. That was at 9:30 this morning - it is now 8:00 at night and still no call.

Another "stellar" dealer experience. Stay tuned......

Anyone have a similar paint issue or have any words of wisdom to share?

After the fact, but id advise some before pics in case someone else gets piss poor work

Picked up Jeep yesterday. Paint is still subpar. Run in paint, overspray still evident, texture and gloss not even. Oh yeah, new abrasions on the lower air dam that were not there when I dropped off the Jeep. Spoke with Service Manager who is now trying to set up a meeting with the (3rd party) body shop so I can express my concerns in person. Gonna be an interesting meeting. Not sure why I have to tell people how to do their jobs correctly. Is it everybody's first day here?!?!?!
