Drive away with no key

When I was looking at cars awhile back. I know that if you started the car with the key in it then removed the key and drove away the car would eventually stop. That was true I think for Nissan and Toyota. What happens if you do that with the JGC?

you keep driving away. :)

My wife sometimes keeps her fob in her purse and she has left to go into a restaurant or movie with her purse while I drive off to find parking. It beeps at you but keeps on going.

This is how my Mazda, my brothers Nissan, and his wires Lexus are, as long as you don't turn it off, you can drive away

My ex Lexus would cut off a few seconds after you put it in gear. I gotta try it in my car.

Our Lexus, like the Jeep, and my prior Infiniti were all the same, you can drive away if the car is already running. You just won't be able to re-start once you turn it off.

Re: Drive away with no key

The risk of having the vehicle stolen by not quitting when no key is detected is much less personally hazardous than the risk of being rear-ended on the highway if the car cuts out because the fob battery dies.

Agree with it or not, personal injury law is dictating decisions in all parts of our life.

Re: Drive away with no key

if you think about the counterpart, a ignition started with a key, is much easier to steal. with keyless ignition, the key is with you and you can press the stop button and get out if you have to, which is much faster than turning and removing the key. also with a keyless once you run out of gas or turn the car off, the car jacker cannot move the vehicle, whereas with a key ignition once a car jacker has the car with the keys, he has much more freedom. so keyless ignition is not an issue.
