Jeep Tent

Anybody know anything about the tent that attaches to the back door? Looks like a good idea to me, Pro's and Cons?

jefferson, unless you really like the vehicle to tent connection and do a ton of car camping in crappy weather, you may be better off with a high quality traditional tent. it'll get you more flexibility and functionality in general, and may just get you a little sumpin sumpin if you also have kids, see below.

A screen door on a submarine comes to mind.

Seems like a great way to get to sleep, a little exhaust gas. Whats the point? I don't want my JGC to smell like a camping trip inside. A regular tent seems to be adequate, its not like your gonna be able to run your AC or anything.

Never buy any cheap tent that has a goofy little rainfly capping the top of the tent only. You need a full-coverage fly that comes nearly to the ground on all sides to keep you dry in a storm. I've been on several multi-day backpacking trips where someone brought a crappy tent like this and had to quit the trip and walk out many miles the next day because all their gear was totally soaked. It might work if you're car camping next to a laundromat, but otherwise it is worthless for anything but dry weather.

Con: The best place to setup a tent isn't typically where you park your car.

For the 200+ dollars they want for the attachable tent you could buy one of those multi-room tents that sleeps 8+ people. I am sure that water and bugs can find ways through that what looks like a bungy cord around the trunk connection.

Why? Just why?

If you need to get out of the tent in crappy weather, to get something out of your vehicle, put on a coat!

This attach-a-tent looks like a carbon monoxide death trap for the Moron family. Coming soon to your local news!
