Sunroof Mod...

So I recently decided to keep my WK. I had it up for sale and was literally days away from a sale but I had a change of heart and decided to keep her. So I did some major matinance within the past few weeks and just got new pads and rotors. I sold my 2006 Acura TL to get this jeep, and I dont really regret it, the car was beautiful and fast but I woulda got myself in trouble soon and it was not practical in NEPA winters.
The ONLY thing I always miss from the acura, and this might sound weird, but I miss the sunroof. I constantly wish the Jeep had a sunroof in it and now its come to the point that I was wondering about having one added. The more and more I think about it I realize how crazy it seems, but I WANT a sunroof again. HELP me guys lol is it possible? Is it to expensive to even consider?

I've heard good and bad experiences from aftermarket sunroofs. A good reputable shop should be able to do it.

.....

Let me rephrase that... DO NOT DO IT! ha ha

I am serious though, If you want one... knowing the factory one is less than stellar, we all know the leak issues associated with the factory one, and it occationally likes to lose its calibration. BUT, its factory, there is service information for it, there are parts available in the junkyard and at the manufacturer. Not that this is not the case for an aftermarket one, I am sure you can source replacement parts, but for how long? and where do you get service information? I had one in a wk that they cut a hole in the head liner, glued new fabric on (that didnt match the original at all) and to the best of my knowledge litterally glued the fabric into place in the roof around the hole, the glue was failing in all the corners and the ignition off draw I narrowed down to the sunroof I couldnt do a damn thing about it, I had not sunroof information and I had no idea if I could get the headliner back up if I dropped it.

If you are so bent on a hole in the roof, trade your jeep in on one that has it. There is something about cutting a hole in your roof to the dimensions of some third party company when in 5 years are they even still around, and if they are who services them, and where do you get information for it??? Then you have an expensive hole in your roof that doesnt work, leaks, or like i mentioned drains the battery and then what do you do.

At the end of the day its your car, I just wanted to inform you of some of the mess you could be getting yourself into... hell due to the factory complaints I wouldnt be supprised if you could find someone on here that wanted to trade for one that doesnt have a hole in its roof lol!

Re: Sunroof Mod...

I'm with 2005JGC on this one. A buddy of mine had one installed in his '06 JGC and has has nothing but problems with it. Had issues with leaks and after that was finally corrected he ended up having to change the headliner then started having issues with the mechanics of the unit (opening, closing, tilt). Needless to say, he'd a NEVER done it knowing what he does now. Stay away!!!

Here in South Africa we have a company called "Webatso" they do aftermarket sunroofs for new cars. I had my Merc's done by them a couple of years ago, never had any problems.
Don't know if they exist in your part of the world. Google is your friend.
