Important new TSB for 2011 5.7L owners

New TSB issued today for 2011 WK2 (5.7L models)

SUBJECT: Flash: Driveability And Transmission And Heating And A/C Improvements

NOTE: This Service Bulletin applies to WK vehicles equipped with a 5.7L engine (Sales Code EZH) and 545RFE transmission (Sales Code DGJ) built before April 4, 2011

OVERVIEW: This bulletin involves flash reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with new software.

Heating And A/C Improvements

a. A/C not cooling enough or feel a warm air burst. This condition happens if 3 to 4 wide open throttle event happen during the same drive cycle or when towing a trailer.

b. Heater warm-up time is too slow at or below 14 F (-10 C). Idle RPM has been increased for improved heater warm-up times.

c. Loud cooling fan or fan run on high for long periords with the A/C on.

Driveability Improvements

a. Fuel odor. This condition is noticeable in hot ambient temperatures, while towing a trailer or in stop or go city traffic. Purge flow has been increased.

b. Lacks Performance. Some driving conditions can produce circumstances where some customers may perceive more pedal effort is required to get the Powertrain to accelerate the vehicle as desired. The PCM calibration for pedal vs. torque relationship was changed to allow for more torque delivery at less pedal effort/travel.

c. Knock sound. This condition happens on heavy throttle input or entry into or out of MDS modes. The spark knock calibration has been changed to accommodate these conditions.

f. Cruise Control cancels without driver input while in ACC mode at about 5800 RPM. To correct this condition the cruise control cancel mode RPM limit has been raised.

Transmission Improvements:

a. Bump feeling or clunk sound in 4WD Low during a coast down. This condition happens at speeds between 5 to 30 mph followed by the driver letting off on the throttle (Decel). (WK Body International Vehicles Only)

b. Too high vehicle speed needed before shifting from 3rd - 4th gear.

c. Shudder or shake feeling on wide open throttle stab.

d. Harsh 1-2 upshift.

is this something they should apply next time i bring it in for service, or something they'll only apply if I bring up specific issues that this will fix?

WOW, It looks like a lot of issues being reported here are addressed. I'm looking forward to see if the engine and trans fixes really improve the one part of the vehicle I'm not completely satisfied with.

At this point they need to do the following 3 on my Overland as I have experienced all 3 at one time or another.

18-035-11 - 5.7L performance
08-036-11 - iPhone fix
08-024-11 - RKE no start

Your vehicle will have to exhibit one of more of the symptoms, they will not automatically apply the update.

Which, IMHO is ludicrous! On my Fords, VW's, Porsche's and Volvo's they always plugged the vehicle in to run a diagnostic and every module that was down rev got updated.

Doesn't matter, mine HAS exhibited all these issues :D (actually it has!)

Great seems like this tsb should cover a lot of the performance issues. Now if they just get a tsb out for the thud in the steering wheel at low speed I would be as happy as can be.

Mine definitely feels like it lacks performance, also the a/c surges sometimes, but I think my build date was just after 4/4/11, I will check with the dealer as it's in tomorrow for a trim issue. Thanks for the update Milous!

Hmm. My build date was 5/11 ... guess I'm out of luck.

Is what they're saying mine doesn't have these issues?

I was just about to post about my AC blowing warm when ECO mode is engaged. I'm calling to make an appt tomorrow.

Thanks Milous.
Mine (Aug. '10 build) has:
1. transmission improvement (a) and
2. Drivability (b), on occasion
so I'll definately take it in after the holiday weekend.

I'm in the opposite camp: my vehicle was built in February but I don't have any of these symptoms. I think I'll leave well enough alone.

WK??? I'm assuming WK2 and Jeep is still internally referring to it as WK?
