Retractable Front plate + Carbon Fiber Lip Installed W/video

what up fellas- figured id throw this up in here.. dont shoot :guns:

Disclaimer: i did the retractable plate prior to doing the CF front lip- just cuse i knew it was going to get messy. if you want to remove the front chrome lip to put on a new one or a CF one- its fairly easy (thanks to parry for some tips! ) there is a one half inch strip of 3M tape under the OEM strip.. you can heat up the strip with a heat gun for a hot second and then begin to pry it up with a flat wedge covered in microfiber towel (is how i did it) after you prey up the corner just a lil bit past the fist of 3 tabs, the rest comes off rather easily...

now before you go all out on the dremeling and etc... id take a minute or two to tape up the area you will be working around. just to be kind to the rest of your bumper :D

btw when i cut the lower mesh (those of you who want to do this mod on their SRT8s)

this is how much you have to cut, literally. just enough for it to slip in and out. before you cut the mesh, put it up against the mesh and mark the corners and grab your dremel...

short video of when it was fully wired and installed. before i put everything back together- click on the image for video

and everything installed and put back together- :sleepy:

you can buy it online or ebay- theres a manual version and a remote controlled one like mine. cost anywhere from 60-120 id guess.

install is simple, just take your time and it can be done in less than 20 minutes but i customized my hanger and fittings for a custom fit farther back than normal. plus i used a different hanger in the back that i had from other misc things..

id imagine its a lot easier on non SRT bumpers cause lots more options due to having more space...

^^x2 :) I live in MO, where they require front plates!!!! ARGH! So (for me) i would put mine out when I'm behind a cop :) Whos the vendor on this cool piece of hardware and does anyone have any feedback with underwater submergence? I tend to go through some $hit :)

well for me i cant stand the front plate- no seriously i despise it!!!!! i really cant stand the look of it but at least with this retractable plate- i can pick and choose when to have it out and about- plus i take lots of photos of my jeep and without a plate interfering with the SRT lines--- it looks much better ;)

well i highly doubt it can be submerged in water and still work effectively though bro. i mean the plate and track are stainless steel but the draw strings would prolly rust with heavy concentration of water and mud etc... but it does come with a insulated semi boot that you can cover the connections on the retractable plate it self. then run weather proof lines up to your battery and maybe give it a go. the brand is made by Altec Products

Have the non powered one in the same spot. Been holding strong for a year or so now with no probs. Funny thing is haven't ever needed it up even in NJ but im sure if I never installed it id have at least 10 no plate tickets
