WK2 Oil status?

Hi, I am planning on changing my oil when the Evic tells me to and I will use synthetic going forward. My question- is there anywhere in the evic that tells you the current status of the oil (haven't found it but would be nice to know) and for those of you that have many miles, how many miles are you getting when the evic tells you to change it? I have about 4K mostly highway miles.

Thanks

I don't think their is an option for that. The EVIC started yelling at me at 3500 miles, I have 6000 on it and am just getting around to getting it to the dealer for the change. It started right before I left on vacation, I probably should have had it done before I left but oh well.

Is synthetic really good for a motor with so little miles on it? I have heard some people say to only use synthetic after 10K or so and that it's better for the motor to use traditional oil until then.

Re: WK2 Oil status?

I have now had three oil changes on my V6:
1. At about 5,400 miles, scheduled by my dealer. No EVIC message before this visit. Mopar 5W-30 oil supposed to be used.
2. At about 8,500 miles, using Mobil 1 full synthetic 5W-30. The EVIC had just started to nag.
3. At about 16,250 miles, right after the EVIC message, again with Mobil 1.

So the two EVIC messages have been at various intervals. Not unexpected, since winter conditions applied for the driving cycle of my first two changes.

The EVIC message will come up at 500 miles before the interval specified in the maintenance schedule selected by the computer. If it thinks you are "severe duty," you'll see it at 3500 miles after the last reset. If it thinks you are "normal," you'll get it at 7500 miles since the last reset.

From what I've seen on here, the V-6 models seem to be getting the EVIC message on the "normal" interval (7500 miles since last reset) more often than not, whereas the Hemi models seem to be selecting the "severe" interval with greater frequency.

Guess we are an exception...got the message at 3500 miles with the V6. The vehicle gets driven on backroad commutes every day so I guess that qualifies as severe duty. Would not matter, we'd get the changes done at 4000 mile intervals anyway.

I know that some here swear by synthetic but at the shorter intervals I think dino oil will work out fine for us. I use full synthetic on my Volvo but it has a turbocharger and the recommended change interval is 7500 miles.
