Sway Bar Bushings or End Links?

05 WK Limited, around 50K miles.

Smooth ride, a minor clunk noise from the front left wheel area when turning in slow speed, mostly in parking. The noise was gone after a mechanic put some DW40 on some of the bushings. Now the noise has come back, but not as loud.

I am not sure which to go first? Sway bar bushings or the end links? I got under the car yesterday and the bushings look alright, holding strong. But the joints on the links looked a little worn out. Is there any way I can do a diagnosis to determine which one is making the noise?

Thank you.

if they look worn out, just replace them. they are a cheap part.

End links were shot on mine in under 40k as well; Just replace the bushings and the links as they are low cost. You cannot tell the end links are worn until they are removed from the vehicle, and then you can see the openings are worn, causing clunks.

Check that thread...if it is the bushings I have circled then try tightening the bolts...worked wonders for me after I loosened one trying to mount a catch can...just a thought ;)

Hey 08HEMI, thank you man. Yeah, I tried that it did get rid of the rattling noise when on uneven driveway. The thing though is that the bolt on the left won't tighten up completely. Any thought? Maybe I need to get a hold on the other side the bolt which is just below the fuse box and tighten it a bit more?

These two bolts did not help with the clunk noise though. I guess I will have to start with the bushings and have my fingers crossed that will solve the problem.

def get at it on both sides...otherwise it will just keep spinning and not tighten...

mine would def "clunk" and sound like the tire/rim was lose or going to fall off (kinda :)) and I would get a little feedback in the steering wheel. Same with you?

Yeah, i am getting 2 different kinds of noise. First, is the clunk which usually happens when I am turning and going really slow, say backing into a parking spot. The clunk does not happen in normal driving though, at all.

The second one is the rattling noise, i believe it is similar to the noise you had. I felt like the whole wheel was about to fall off. After reading your post, I went on to get both bolts tightened. The right one is alright, tight enough. The left one got tightened up a bit, but I guess not 100% tightened yet. But even that, it did get rid of the rattling noise.

I just order the sway bar bushings and the new brackets and getting a new socket (13/16) for the job. Hopefully this will get rid of the clunk noise. I am going to tighten the left bolt tonight. I don't know how I can do that myself though, maybe I will get my roommate to hold on to the other side.

I think you can remove the inner fender well (6 fasteners total) and get at it the upper control arm that way, rather than going though the top.

4 of these:

That is, if you can't get a second person to help you out.
