2012 off road adventure II pkg

If i look at the specifics of the oraII group for the 2012 GC Overlands, it appears to be the same as what was offered in 2011:

18x8.0" Aluminum Polished Wheels
P265/60R18 OWL Michelin On/off Road Tires
Skid Plate Group (Fuel Tank, Transfer Case, Front Suspension, Underbody)
Tow Hooks
Trail Rated Badge

But, in 2011, it was a $275 option, in 2012, its $995. (verified the specifics and pricing with the dealer yesterday) Any idea on why its now $700 more expensive?

My optimistic guess, real AT tires? :)

(sorry for the xpost, i also asked the question somewhere else yesterday)

I doubt youll ever get AT tires because of fuel economy, noise etc. Just add your own tires.

EVEN IF YOU GET SILENT ARMOUR OR MICHELIN LTX A/TS ( WHICH ARE ABOUT $10 VS LAITUDE MSRP) IS A HIGHWAY ROBBERY! 20" DO COST WAY MORE THAN 18"... FOR $225 I GAVE UP 20" TO GET TOW HOOKS AND SKID PLATES.... FOR A COOL GRAND I WOULD GET ON 20" AND WOULD ADD SKIDS AND HOOKS AFTER PURCHASE...
Scott, what are you basing your comment? of course if i put mud terrain on a adventure vehicle it would effect milage ( minor) and road noise ( substantially). However with silent armor or Micheline A/T i wuld not think it would be substantial. not like factory tires are V/Z/W rated ( soft compound performance tire). I frankly feel OE michelin belong on a say MDX, not TRAIL RATED vehicle... just saying

ilber<- patting himself on the back for getting what he wanted, when he wanted :)

Jeep is way overcharging. Just add skid plates and use the 20" wheels.

basing my comment on experience. AT tires suck on road, are loud and handle terrible. JMO

The Goodyear Wrangler AT/S http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....rangler+AT%2FS
- I was happy with those tires on road for both noise and they lasted over 50,000 miles with even wear.

Can't say as I agree - I've been very happy with the LTX AT/2 set that I put on to replace the OEM Latitude Tours.

Handling is identical within the operating range of an SUV (I don't take the Summit to the track - that's for my M5 :))

There is definitely an increase in tire noise, but not to the objectionable level. I didn't have the Latitudes long enough to comment on any reduced mileage.

So I'm trading a little more noise and probably a minor reduction in MPG to allow me to take my WK2 into the back country without having to change the tires.

The AT tire suggestion was tongue in cheek.

Seriously, does anyone know why what appears to be the same pgk is almost 4x times the costs
thx

Milous chime in on this one?

I'm wondering the same thing. Milous--can you chime in here? It does seem odd it would increase $720 for exactly the same package when the increase in price of the vehicle from '11 to '12 is about half that.

Anyone have an opinion on how well the 20" wheels and Goodyears might do for some "light" 4-wheeling? I know in rocks there's a great risk for sidewall damage, but beside that. Has anyone done any 4-wheeling on the Goodyear tires?

Bump...

Any answers on this? Still trying to figure out why the 2012 ORA Group II package is $720 more for the exact same thing as is currently offered for the 2011 ORA Group II package?
