Aftermarket Power Liftgate
My Laredo X didn't come with power liftgate. Has anyone tried to do this aftermarket? I found a company (Electric Life) that puts together power trunk kits with linear actuators but not sure if trunk openers will be long enough to open the liftgate. Any comments appreciated!

be glad you don't have it, if you skim forums not only for grand cherokee but other manufacturers, besides air suspension issues, other common problem people ALWAYS have is power liftgate issues.

Re: Aftermarket Power Liftgate
Our navigator had powerlift gate and never had a problem, but the unit in the Jeep seems to be a POS. Takes forever to lower (or start to lower for that matter), occasionally you getting the annoying contruction equipment backup beep, doesn't always close properly, doesnt always open properly... The nav was smart enough that if you pulled the gate it would start closing, which does not happen on the jeep (not everyone realizes you have power liftgate and we've had friends try to close manually).

Just another thing to go wrong. Don't waste your time/money. Do what everyone else does... Buy some reps.

I have the power lliftgate (one of the requirements from my wife). At first I thought it was a waste of money, but now that I have it, I find it extremely handy and trouble free. Would not order another vehicle without one.

I looked into doing this as well as it was an option I wanted and wasn't able to get (in October I couldn't find a Limited with a Hemi, Tow-IV package and Lux 2), anyway....

If you search trademotion's website you will be able to find all of the OEM pieces you need to pull this off. I haven't done this because the OEM parts are very expensive. But, if there is an aftermarket company near you willing to perform the work indpendent of OEM parts you may not have to purchase all of the expensive Jeep OEM modules and such. You maybe able to augment the factory items with acceptable aftermarket items. If done properly, you may even be able to get a factory keyfob programmed to work.

Heres' a link to trademotion and a .pdf snapshot. Cherokee&year=2011&graphicID=WA11765&callout=1&cat alogid=2&displayCatalogid=0

Re: Aftermarket Power Liftgate

Liftgate problems here too... Mine is like a really old person who has health has good days, and it has bad days. First thing that went wrong was the beeper would either 1. stop alltogether, 2. sound like it's dying, 3. Beep like a unknown Morse code, or 4. squeal like I'm killing a large pig in the middle of target parking lot (to which the only thing I could do was smile and wave :iws:).

Next was the thing would either...not open at all, or open and you couldn't shut it (even manually). It did this to me the other night when a severe thunderstorm was headed in our direction and I was parked in the middle of the driveway getting groceries into the house... Looking back, I would have been happier without the power liftgate at all...

Re: Aftermarket Power Liftgate
I have a love/hate relationship with mine. My wife loves it for loading groceries, etc, but sometimes I just want to be able to reach up and manually close it w/o looking like a pansy who can't close his own liftgate and has to press a little button. It has been trouble-free so far, but I am waiting for the day where it malfunctions.

Re: Aftermarket Power Liftgate
I was excited to have the power liftgate for grocery shopping, trips to Costco, etc. but the funny part is that half the time I forget I even have it. Then I get up to the truck and have to wait for it to open anyway
