Any Problems With An Aftermarket Radio & Dealer Service Updates?

Hi Gang,

If this thread is repeated else were in the forum, let me apologize. I have spent my of a late night researching this question with no luck.

I have the regular 430 (no NAV) with the Premium Alpine System and I am looking to upgrade the entire package. I consider myself an audiophile when it comes to my music. The system is not bad, but like many for us have noted, it does need a TLC improvement.

From what have read and heard so far, a lot of the dealer’s service department have a hard time with modifications to the JGC and want to void the vehicle ‘s warranty if the can not perform the service updates or repairs because of the CAM-BUS network being interfered with.

My plan is to change the HU with a NAV ready in dash DVD player. For NAV, I am going to use Directus, Prodigy One external processor. It looks like I should use the PAC C2R-CHY4 as the wiring harness and leave the factory amp in order to maintain the CAM-BUS communications thru out the JGC. Which leaves me to use a hi level signal converter whether it is a signal processor or a stand-alone unit for the external amps to hook into.

If anybody knows of any problems with my set-up or any other experiences, I would truly appreciate any feedback.

Best for Now. :)

Thank you for that information. That is important piece of legal information to have in our pocket. So now, I have to continue my research and make sure that the aftermarket radio will be in sync with CAN-BUS. Any insights or experiences will be greatly appreciated.

Best for now. :)

Thank you for that information, I did not know about that law.

In the mean time, I am still trying to find out the best way to upgrade the sound. The hi-speed CAM-BUS that Jeep uses seams to be sensitive if the communications is disturbed within the network.

The question that I must find out is, is their any important information is passed thru MYGIG Media Center Radios that Jeep uses into the CAM-BUS network or the aftermarket radios can handle the data flow via PAC C2R-CHY4 wire harness? The tech at PAC believes it should handle it, but confirm with Jeep. Jeep Customer service believes it should not be a problem, but yet, the service manager is against it.

Any input would be helpful in this saga.

Best for now. :)

Hi,

I am still working on it.

I do know that is best to keep the Alpine Amp in and use a line driver.

Best for now.:)
