CRD Liberty

So my father in law has a 2007 Jeep Liberty 2.8L (i think) CRD. Since he bought it he said it felt like it did not have as much power as he was thinking it should have.

Over the past few years he has had check engine light issues and other various issues with it, all under warranty. One issues was that the "mixer" needed to be replaced as well as a few other things. Well after many visits to the dealership for service over the years it still never felt quite right and his warranty expired. Last winter he was driving it and he lost almost all power. Had it towed to the dealership and low and behold the turbo crapped out. It has under 60k miles on it.

So after some chatting with Chrysler Customer Service they agreed since he had recurring issues through out his ownership of the liberty that they would honor the repair and they replaced the turbo and a few other parts.

Now he said it drives better then the day he brought it home.

Is it possible it was a manufacturing defect? Or could it be a similar issue to the 3.0 CRD WKs?

Also my wife is being given this KJ Liberty next summer and it will be her primary vehicle. Is there anything i should know about or do to this liberty to help it last longer and be reliable? My wife has driven it and loves it. She is really excited to get it and since we wont have a car payment on it it will be a nice thing to have. I just hope it wont cost us more to own it besides the cost of Diesel.

I also have plans of adding an engine block heater like i am doing to my 4.7 WK. We get some very cold winters here in NH and i know that this liberty does not like to be driven if it has not had enough time to warm up. So i wanna keep it warm on those nights.

My father in law has not had any issues with it since the last repair.
