Zag Query

All Zag sites I've tried for the V6 Summit show "26R OVERLAND SUMMIT CUSTOMER PREFERRED ORDER SELECTION PKG (26R)" as an option. However, Jeep's build site shows no such option and the various items in that Zag-listed option are shown on the Jeep Summit build page as being standard.

Presumably Zag treats this as a "required option," but at nearly $4k it makes quite a difference in the final Zag price. It doesn't seem to be required, though, as if it is unchecked the process continues to go through to the end, just at a much lower price.

Any idea whether this is a required option, something of an oxymoron, or a misleading entry by Zag?

Okay, thanks. Zag sets that up peculiarly, but whatever road gets us to Rome. I'd be more comfortable ordering normally through Zag especially as there's a top 5% dealer 33 miles away. But, who knows, they just might hold off until the official selling season starts in September. That's too far off for us, so if they don't get 2012 pricing up in the next week or two we'll just have to work out a price below invoice deal like other JG folks have been doing (sigh).

Re: Zag Query

Is this weird or what.

Going to two Zag sites (AAA and CR), for the exact same configuration produces slightly different lowest prices for one zip code vs. another -- both are for where we are, just that one is for home delivery (a recent option) and the other is for postbox pickup down the street in our tiny township.

It's not the stuff of Washington trillions, but:
Zip code A: $41,255 ($4,125 off MSRP)
Zip code B (same place): $41,161 ($4,219 off MSRP)

Somebody should come up with an app to find the cheapest Zip code in the area, but more to the point this makes no sense and the same thing happens at both Zag sites.

Forgot to mention: same dealers listed, too.

Doesn't Zag power AAA's car buying service?

What is CR? Did you try cars.overstock.com? That is Zag as well...

probably consumer report.

Yes to all -- AAA and Consumer Reports are both Zag, and other Zag sites work the same. Once you enter any Zag affliate's site the setup and numbers appear to be identical.

What was weird is not which Zag affiliate -- once you pass through the affiliate's portal they seem to go straight to Zag -- but that the same vehicle configuration from the same dealers is slightly different depending on which Zip code is used, at least at our location. How or why this changes the price is anybody's guess, but it indicates that when using Zag it can't hurt to try a few nearby Zip codes to see if you get a better bottom line quote.

Maybe it's just an oddity at our location, but it can't hurt to pound the keys for a few minutes to check out. Include nearby post office zip codes, too -- that brought up the difference for us.

Search recent news stories for truecar/zag. They have been in the offensive recently due to flack from manufacturers and state broker laws. Most likely the reason for pricing changes.
