Planning on leasing 2012 Wrangler Unlimited - need your input.

Hey folks, I've been on this site for a few months (ever since we leased my wife's wk2). Everyone has been extremely helpful with our adventure thus far. The dealer we leased our '11 GC from was amazing and the salesperson have been awesome as well. Anyway, i'm very impressed with my wife's GC and the new V6 pentastar engine. MPG is very good compared to the weight and power of the truck.

I currently drive a Nissan 350Z and my commute to work is about 80 miles round trip. I get about 23mpg or so mixed driving. I'm looking to replace my 350z (trade it in) with a 2012 Wrangler Unlimited. I'm tired of driving a two seater that is low so I would like to change things around. This is the reason why i'm planning on leasing the Wrangler so I can get rid of it in 3 years for something else. I get tired of vehicles very easily.

So my question is, how much does it cost to fill up the new Wranglers from empty? It takes us about 80 bucks to fill up the GC from empty and we get about 450-500 miles (mixed driving). Also, is the Wrangler a rough riding truck compared to GC? Is it comfortable to use it as a daily commuter or rather a off-roading weekend toy? Should I lean towards Wrangler or just go with another Grand Cherokee?

Any other things I should know before going to the dealer for a test drive and price dealing? Feel free to advice guys/girls. Thanks in advance.

Sam

Haven't drove the 2012 Wrangler although I don't think that anything has really changed but the engine and trans. But I have drove the 2010 Wrangler and that car has a much rougher ride vs the Wk2. For a DD, it depends on how rough your willing to take for it being a DD. Every small bump, your going to feel it. The tank of the 2011 is 22.5, don't know if that is going to change. Good luck on getting any type of good deals on leasing. Wranglers, along with the Compass and Patriot are the worst Jeeps to lease.

22.5 gal tank isn't bad at all. GC is 24.6 gal. Lease prices are pretty cheap around here. I can pick one up for around 300+/- a month. That's with nothing down. I'm just worried about the rough ride. My Z has a pretty rough ride being that it's a sports car but I would expect better from a SUV. I guess I got a lot to think about.

Sporty cars aren't required have rough rides, I think it was more the execution of the 350Z than the fact it's a sporty car.

The Wrangler has solid front and rear axles which is great offroad but doesn't offer a very plush ride. The Wrangler also has the aerodynamics of a brick, so your fuel consumption will suffer. If you want an extremely capable weekend warrior or relatively inexpensive convertible the Wrangler is a great vehicle. If you're never going to take it offroad, then get another Grand.

Thanks for the clarification, i'm probably never going to go off-roading however i'm attracted to the convertible part when it comes to Wranglers. I guess i'm better off with another GC, thanks again.

Go test drive it for yourself. Some don't care about the rough ride, some do. Its all about personal choice. I for one was going to still buy it despite the ride.

If you test drive it...Do it on a sunny day and with the top off.
You'll forget the "ride" but you'll really enjoy the ride.
Doors off, top off is a great experience on a nice day. I see you're in NY, so they do make incredible snow vehicles to.
With the Pentastar motor at 295HP, its a big jump in power and you should get above 20 mpg with out any problems.

^^^^

DO NOT do that.

I damn near bought a V6 Mustang because the salesman popped the top before I took it out for a spin. I came back in with drool running down my mouth demanding a credit app and that no one was to touch that car, even though I came in looking at a V8 hardtop.

Lucky for me, I had my friend with me at the time and he kind of talked me out of buying it.

This was before I was going to sale my ZJ and replace it.

Thanks guys. I am suppose to go in to speak to my sales guy within a few days. We'll see how it turns out. Sounds like Wrangler is a all year round toy (snow/summer). Best part is I go to the same gym as the owner of one of the Jeep dealership (just found out today). I will also go see him after I see my guy whom I leased the GC from. I just hope I can find a deal I cannot walk away from.

Alright dude, I got some numbers for you. Sahara I priced out came out to 430/month and Sport with S package came out to 360/month. This includes a $4000 cash due at signing which covers tax, title, dmv fees. I would have went with the 2012 Sahara but they were playing hard ball with my trade-in. They offered me $2000 less than what Volkswagen is offering me. I gave them 24 hours to think it over and once 24 hours pass, I will be pulling the trigger on a 2012 Volkswagen. ESPECIALLY since we already have a Grand Cherokee, I can care less for another Jeep. CIAO.
