about to buy a 2011 but have a few questions!

Looking at a laredo 4x4 3.6 but its a qt1. Can someone explain to me how it works? Ie because there is no terrain selector if the rear tires spin in rain the front two start spinning? Also, is this slower than the standard 2wd model ? I don't really need 4wd where I live but found this one for a good deal. Any help is appreciated

Re: about to buy a 2011 but have a few questions!

Q-T I's transfer case operates with an open center differential dividing engine torque 50 percent torque to the front axle and 50 of torque to the rear axle. The Brake Traction Control System, which combines standard ABS and Traction Control, provides resistance to any wheel that is slipping to allow additional torque transfer to wheels with traction.

It's an AWD system more than a 4x4 system. It's more than adequate.

By the way I love my Laredo! Plenty loaded and doesn't have too many of those bells and whistles that will break once the warranty is up.

Listen from the Jeep engineer himself:

So would you guys pass up a deal on this over a 2wd all things remaining equal? One thing the engineer doesn't talk about is if 0-60 time is hindered... Any thoughts? Thanks for the quick responses!

4 wheel drive holds better on turns (as far as driver's "feel") and you won't have to worry about spinning the back tires as you would with 2wd. 4wd especially feels more traction by the driver on wet roads as well. I know this because of personal experience owning/driving a 1998 Grand Cherokee that had selectable 2wd and 4wd that I could select whenever I felt like it. I ended up using 4wd exclusively and Jeep's user video at the time actually recommended using it in 4wd.

Last question

Performance wise
- Is the quadratrac 1 slower in any way than a 2wd? I know the gas mileage is less, around 1mpg but what about driving in and out of traffic etc...

If you are looking for decent acceleration, you are looking at the wrong vehicle. Compared to other suv's and crossovers the GC is the slowest 0-60.

Come on man that' s not true. Check the link. 6 out of 16...not bad. Nobody is saying it's the fastest 0-60 but it's an SUV! If you want the fastest 0-60, buy the SRT8.

That's the HEMI. The v6 is dog city.

Lol ok if you are referring to the V6 then yep you're right. But i don't know why you'd buy the V6 over the V8 if you are looking for acceleration and performance. It is optimized for one thing...MPG.

Even if you'll never drive in the snow, you'll love the AWD in the rain: not all of the power going to 1 wheel.

Although - I don't know how Jeep's AWD compares to the Lexus RX330 AWD with VSC (Vehicle Stability Control), which monitors and controls all 4 wheels. If it's similiar/comparible it's worth it (someone else can chime in). Never experienced any problems driving on rainy mountain roads in California (manytimes) and never worried if it started to snow.

If the option is available, I'll always take an AWD over a 2-wheel drive (actually 1-wheel drive, since you don't have limited slip). :slapfight: My opinion.

I drive a 5.7L and I drove the 3.6L (friends rental car) and i didn't think it was that under powered. It certainly dominated the 3.7L in the WK.
