2011 Grand Cherokee Limited Road Noise

Has anyone noticed how loud the shocks are on the new Grand Cherokee (2011) especially in the back. They almost sound loose and some times sound like they are bottoming out.I just traded in my 2008 Tahoe for the 2011 Grand Cherokee Limited and starting to wonder if I made a mistake. I took it to the dealership to see if they could fix it and although they admit it is unusually loud after two days of trying to find the problem they said all the new Cherokees sounded like that and there is nothing they can do. I figured this forum would be full of people complaining about it since I am usually not that picky.

I hear ya! I can hear this suspension sound coming from the back of the WK2 whenever I enter/exit my garage. I hear it most when the car rolls over the section of cement where the garage floor meets the driveway which has about a 1/2" height difference. It's not scary sounding but I do notice it.

Have you taken it in? I have had two different people ask me when riding if something was loose in the back. Kills me that I spent 42K and am told there isn't a problem. I guess it's my fault for not noticing it during the test drive. Love everything else about the vehicle but this is enough to keep me from getting another Jeep.

I got rid of my 1998 Grand Cherokee for what sounds very similar. It was an audible thud sound when hitting a speed bump especially with people in the back seat. This didn't start occurring until 5 years into ownership though.

Sounds like something is loose or maybe a bad shock. I know there is a tsb for the early builds without load leveling. When was yours built? I would insist that they look into this further and find the problem.

Not sure what suspension you have, but your description sounds odd.

If your dealer says all GCs are like that, they should be able to let you test drive an other one with the same suspension so you can compare.

Sounds to me like the "load leveling" rear suspension.

Have 6 cylinder Limited. I'll turn the stereo down a little and listen. Haven't noticed anything at 6500 miles.

No haven't had a chance to take it in yet but will probably soon in order to get some of the TSB updates. I get the creaking brake sound up front and the suspension sound in back. So is that a new sound leveling option??

I've noticed some louder sounds in the back when going over "washboard" type bumps. It's always been there so I guess I assumed it was normal. We have a Laredo X with the tow package so we do have the self leveling shocks.

I'm getting the front squeak checked out tomorrow. Interesting part about that noise is that I had to drive with the window open and the radio and fan down to hear it. Seems to me like there's a decent amount of sound dampening in the interior.

Not sure if I have the "load leveling" suspension. The "washboard" type bumps are where I notice it the most. Thinking of taking it to another dealership to see if they are more helpful. Wish there was a way to report it directly to Jeep! Doubt I will ever buy another Jeep which sucks since I love all other aspects of the vehicle.

My driveway is a 900-foot gravel road with several deep potholes. I don't hear a thing from my shocks.
