Always wanted to do this when we lived in SoCal, but never made it due to so many other beautiful destinations nearby, and the horror stories you hear of those that went in solo, or unprepared, or both.

That said, it would be very cool to do this in the late fall or winter months, including a camp night or two.

FWIW, per AK's linked story to the disastrous Bronco rollover - those things roll over standing still in flat, paved, parking lots. Just sayin.

Good reason to have a ham transceiver or satellite phone out there -- these reach out long distances.

It's not too bad in the Spring... if it's hot, you can just keep going up to higher elevation until it's cool enough to camp :)

Spent a month camping all over Death Valley in 1972. Didn't get lost once. You can see where you need to go. Let me rephrase: Camped for a month in Death Valley and went all over it.
