Surging RPM

Hi, New Member trying to find out what the problem is with my new Jeep Cherokee.

It is a Grand Cherokee with a 3.6 liter engine Quadratrac. It has less than 500 miles on it.

On Saturday when my wife and I were driving around Myrtle Beach SC at around 30 - 35 mph the Rpm went up to 4-5k rpm and it seem it was going higher. I slowed and stopped with the engine racing and put it in netrual but that didn't help. I popped back into drive and the RPM dropped down 1k and idled. For the rest of the day I didn't have a problem. On Monday afternoon I took the Jeep out to go to the store and it happen again and I repeated the same procedure i.e. Neutral then drive and it went away. Can someone help on this.

Thanks
Martin

90% chance the throttle blade is sticking. Most likely needs the TB assembly replaced as it is not serviceable.

Hi,

I just ran across a Service Bulletin 18-012-11 REV-A Under the section that states Transmission Improvements WK Body only: Para: C. " Noticeable higher engine RPM during low speed driving. This condition will be noticed dureing parking lot or city traffic low speed driving. The TCM logic was refined to keep the upshift inhibit more linear vs. Vehicle speed.

Could the above be the cause of my problem? Not sure what TCM logic means but the symptoms of Higher RPM during low speed driving is what I have.

The rev's stay slightly higher with the TSB but it is mostly noticeable while turning - the engine does not bog down like it did before. Your issues sounds like something different.

I doubt this will help any. Bring it to the dealer and show them the issue. I bet they will replace your TB assembly.

Well Folk's,

I promised to up date you on the problem with my RPM surging. I took it (2011 Grand Cherokee, 3.6L) into my local Dealer and informed them of the problem. I didn't go into the solutions that were described on the forum to me because I wanted to see what they were going to do and what they had to say! I received the Jeep back and the service manager stated that there was a recall out on this vehicle for some updates. (Mind you I have only own the vehicle for 2.5weeks new of the lot). Here are the three items that they had to do.

1. Perform RRT #11-002 Electronic Stability Control
2. Perform RRT #11-038 PCM and TCM Improvement Fash
3. Perform RRT #1-047 Flash Win Module

I drove the Jeep home with out a problem and now it is a wait and see if it the updates have solved the intermitent problem.

Cheers
Martin
