Keyless Entry Problem

I have a 2011 JGC Overland with keyless entry and remote start. At times when I try to unlock the car by touching/pulling on the door handle nothing happens. I then have to use the key fob to unlock the door. This does not happen all the time, but seems to be happening more frequently lately. Is there some electronic module that is on the verge of failure? Is there a TSB on this? I would take it to the dealer but feel I would get the "problem not found" line if it does not happen at the dealer. So I am waiting until it happens all the time. Thanks!

I had it happen several times. What I learned to do is to to grip the door handle and wait a second or two before pulling. I don't think there is a TSB for this.

There is another problem for which there is a TSB - key is sometimes not detected even though it is in the car:

This can happen if you get gunk on the inside of the door handle. Check that it's clean and dry.

I should also have mentiioned that in addition to not unlocking, at times, when I touch/pull the handle, it also is finicky at times when I try to lock the door by touching the button on the door handle. Do I have have to remove the handle in order to clean it? Thanks for all the comments!

Mine did that too until I realized I was grabbing the whole door handle to punch the button with my thumb. It saw both "unlock" and "lock" signals and wouldn't lock. Now I push the lock button with my index finger and it locks reliably.

No, just inspect the space inside the handle that you touch to unlock. You might have to use a mirror. If there's gunk in there, wipe it out with something soft like a wet paper towel, then dry it.

Have you talked to your dealer about the intermittent problem?

I do use my index finger, but, at times, it takes a few tries before it will lock. Thanks for your suggestions about cleaning. I'll take a look at it.

No. It is clear that dealerships don't have much experience troubleshooting/fixing this kind of problems on WK2. It seems that until there is an official TSB their approach is to start replacing parts one by one. I don't want this done to my car.

keep your cellphone away from the key fob cause it may affect the transmitter signal and it may affect the car respond to it.

may be it helps

Re: Keyless Entry Problem

Just gently put your hand in back of door handle.
Just grabbing the whole handle will slow down unlocking.
This has been my experience.

Re: Keyless Entry Problem

Thanks for all your comments. I have been trying to be gentle in touching behind the door handle and the button on the handle, and the unlocking and locking function has been working fine the last couple of days. So, maybe the problem is solved. We'll see.
