Newbie coming from VW

Hi all, I'm a regular at passatworld.com and have decided to sell the wagon and go with a new JC 4x4 V8 Hemi either in Overland or Limited trim.

First I am torn between white exterior and dark charcoal grey. I realize DCG is not available in 2012 so this may be the ultimate deciding factor.

However, should I go with white, do you think I'm better off bargaining the heck out of a 2011 in current inventory or ordering a 2012 exactly the way I want it? I am paying 100% cash. How will the pricing be between the two? In fact, how do I go about ordering a 2012 in the spec I want? Just not used to Jeep!

Any other tips? Really looking forward to digging in to this site. Wrangler is on my bucket list, but that will have to wait for the beach house one day!

There's currently some incentive cash on the 2011's, at least $1000 here in the south so if they have or can find you a 2011 you'll save some coin. OTOH, if it's worth a couple grand to you to get exactly what you want then order a 2012.

The process is simple, find a dealer who is willing to place a custom order for you. Most will but some of the larger dealers will try and deflect you into something they already have ordered for stock. If you are ordering I would suggest using a smaller dealership and ask to work with the sales manager or GM to make sure they place the order properly and can give you regular updates. If a salesman is your front line then be prepared to be frustrated, especially at the larger dealerships.

First, welcome to the Jeep group.
If you are not particular, then bargain on a 2011 from the lot inventory. That might be your best deal.
However, the new 6 speed transmission on the 5.7L might be worth ordering a 2012 with your exact options.
Overlands already come well equiped with minimal options so finding one with your exact needs might be found on a dealer's lot. That's how I got my white/beige Overland. It had all the options less the DVD which is exactly how I wanted it. No waiting, I just searched all the inventories in a 50km radius.

Welcome to JEEPGARAGE. I'm also a member at passatworld. Actually I got a 2012 Passat on order which hopefully will arrive by October. :(

Enjoy and goodluck with your new Jeep.

one of the dealers just hit me with a 2011 4x4 Hemi with Luxury Group II, 730N Media, 20" painted alum wheels for $38xxx plus TTL via email. It's exactly what I want but without active cruise control. Seems like a very good deal. According to new inventory list they have over 50 Cherokees of various trim and seem quite aggressive.

Any reason not to get the 2011? Anything you'd ask to add? I noticed there is no towing package. Can that be put on at the dealer as a throw-in?

Thanks again guys. This process might be quite painless.

That is a killer deal. I have the same thing but sans Luxury Group II (which I didn't need/want) and I was at $38k before TTL. If that's what you want and can live without ACC, then yes...most certainly buy it at that price. FWIW. we had ACC on two of our Mercedes and didn't use it often enough to make it a big deal; more often than not I preferred to give them "Italian tune ups" than slog along in slower traffic. Just me.

Tow package when bought as an option includes load leveling shocks. I'm not sure if not having the load leveling shocks would affect the ride. Maybe not. Otherwise, it seems like a good build. I could live without ACC easily, but I've never had it. I prefer to control/drive the way I want to without some system doing it for me though. People on this forum have had the tow package added after they bought their Jeep Grand Cherokee.

No complaints now Walter when the Jeep starts going Ta-pocketa-pocketa-pocketa.
