Pulled the trigger on a 2011 GC Overland 4x4 HEMI

Well, after waiting and waiting and waiting for my 2012 GC to ever be built following a lot of threads on here made me really think about what I should do. From what I gathered on the tranny part it seems there wasn't much changed with quote on quote new 6 speed rather more of a marketing thing. I was all about the idea of getting a 6 speed in this Jeep hoping for performance improvement more than anything. Then readying more into the whole Quadra-Drive not being standard on the 2012 Overland and thats when I finally had to put a lot a thought to what I was giving up for the marketed 6 speed tranny.

I cancelled my order on my 2012 and I'm glad to say I pulled the trigger on a 2011 GC Overland 4x4 HEMI with the 730N on Thursday night. Black on black. Love every minute of it. Given it was built 5/9/11 I would assume a lot of the bugs are pretty much fixed by that point.

I will post pictures in the next few days. Thanks everyone for helping me make the right decision. I would be been pretty upset to know that I lost the QDII feature and had a tranny that really wasn't a true new 6 speed tranny but more of a marketing thing to get away from the multi-speed tranny name.

Anyone else on the fence I can tell you I'm 110% confident I made the right choice.

Congrats Capitalist! I knew you couldn't stand the wait. Well, now you've got yourself a new toy and hopefully saved some $$$ too. Good luck with it. I'm still waiting. :)

When I purchased my 2011 Overland at the end of June I spent 2 days trying to decide between buying it and ordering a 2012. I'm very happy I chose it instead of ordering.

I just canceled my Sirius/XM traffic after more than 3 years of use in my Infiniti G35x. It just wasn't worth it here in the D.C. Metro area. You'd think it would be well-supported here, but updates came too late to save me from traffic jams and lasted far after the jams cleared. Maybe it's different on the GC or in other areas, but I don't think you're missing much by not having it.

The wait was a big part that was killing me but in the end I would hate to miss the QDII with the ELSD without having to get the off-road package or the summit. I love the 20's wheels and black interior.

I did have to run the TSB's for the tranny update and the 730n update which turns out was already done from the factory which surprised me given it was built 5/9/11. The Jeep is truly amazing compared to the older body style. The ride is great and I love the lift suspension. The HEMI is even more responsive than the older body as well. The interior is by far nicer than most new cars out there IMO. Last, it feels nice and solid.

Anyone one still on the fence jump on it. I personally think now how upset I would have been waiting for the 2012 and missing out on one of the biggest features which is the QDII with the ELSD. Overall I can see this playing a big part in the rough winters we get here in Chicago. If its anything like last year I look forward to it now.

I do have one question can you turn on a feature that would allow the doors lock on their own when you walk away? It seems that the only way you can lock them is the door button or the remote. I plan to download the owners manual later to see if it is in there somewhere but figured I would ask.

Did you mean that the car already had BOTH tsbs done already from factory, or the tranny update wasn't done but the 730N was already updated from factory?

Re: Pulled the trigger on a 2011 GC Overland 4x4 HEMI

When they had the tech work on it he said the system shows they were already updated and no new updates based on the TSB numbers were needed for my GC. I figured at least the tranny update would be needed since that came out 6/30 and mine was built 5/09.

According to the manual, you have to lock it manually, either by pressing the interior door button and leaving with the fob, or by closing the door and pressing the button on the handle, or by using the fob after you exit the vehicle. It would be nice to just walk away and have it lock itself.

It's to bad they made it so far with this push start and touch door opening locking thing that they skipped out on the walk away feature. Oh well probably better to know you locked it
