Plastic Tabs on Door Drain Holes

I seem to remember this topic being covered before, but I don't remember the conclusion and a search was not successful. Sorry for the repeat.
At the bottom of each door of my 2011 JGC there are two drain holes, one in front and one in back. On each door, I noticed a plastic tab on the drain hole at the back of the door, but no plastic tab on the drain hole in the front of the door. The tab has a hole in it for water to drain out, but there was also dirt, gunk collecting behind the tab. I asked the dealer for the purpose of this tab. The dealer did not know and didn't see any reason why the tabs shouldn't be removed. Does anyone know of a reason to leave these tabs on? Thanks!

Take 'em off. The drain holes should be open to drain.

Chrysler went to alot of trouble to put them on so why remove them. They are vented.

Keep them on it is to prevent debris from the road getting inside the door. There are holes punched into the tape to let the water out.

I removed mine. I believe there was even a tab on them. The adhesive side over the hole in the door was covered in dirt. I am sure the dirt and gunk were draining down from the windows and would cover the small hole in the plastic tape in no time. Removing the tape allows the larger hole in the door to drain.

What was the original purpose? Don't know, but would imagine had something to do either protecting the edges of the holes from chipping during assembly or protection during storage and transport from road gunk or insect nesting in doors. (Perfect home for bees if doors are not being used for extended period of time!!)

I can't say for sure with Chrysler, but cars that are dipped in a bath for anti-corrosive treatments, would need these drains in the door panel for quick drainage post bath. I suspect they then add the vented plastic stickies to decrease the size of these vents. Just a theory.

Makes sense, I guess.

Tabs were already removed by my dealer at prep.

Mine too. Take a look at your other cars. They all have a similar size opening without tape.

All of mine are there with from two different dealer on my WKII's and all my past cars have never been removed. It wouldn't make sense to put the stickers on the holes from the factory for them to be removed by the dealer. They are to block mud and dirt from entering the bottom of the door kicked up from the tires and building up on the inside. They have drain holes built in to let water and dirt come out. It really isn't a big deal if you remove them as long as you are not off-roading a lot.

If you leave them on, they will fall off on their own eventually. The adhesive is not waterproof.

I remember reading the original thread for this, then 2 weeks after when I got mine I took them off immediately, yes there is a tab and yes one of mine was barely on there since it had gotten a little wet from the dealer clean
