Chances Are It's A UFO On Australian Roads!

Prior to May this year I knew ABSOLUTELY NOTHING of the Grand Cherokee and very little about Jeep itself. I have been a Holden (GM) man for most of my life and a Toyota faithful since 2004 with my 120 series Prado.

How things have changed. My Overland CRD is due to land in NSW in a few days and like all previous new owners, I'm itching to get into it particularly as my Prado sold a month ago and I've been driving around in a rental cheapie .

What is staggering to me is this......since May this year to this day, I have only seen 1 WK2 on the road here in Brisbane and that was back in June, it was black and it was nice . I stalked it for a while in the traffic appreciating it's great lines and finesse but it slipped away as it should. It was nowhere near a Jeep dealership therefore it was not being test driven, it was clearly a bought unit on the road.

Of course there are quite a few GC's on the road as these threads can testify, I am merely outlining here my own personal observation based on my own sightings. However, it seems to me I'd have more of a chance sighting a UFO than I would of another WK2 :D on the streets of Brisbane.

Why are there so few of these machines on our streets? In the past few months Jeep have saturated TV & online spaces in Australia with their great ads (personally I only noticed the ad after I took a test drive) and reading these threads there is certainly great demand for them. Where is the supply?

The dealership I test drove with and wanted to sign up with simply could not supply until November / December this year.....imagine being stuck with the rental cheapie (Diahatsu Sirios) until then ? Hence why I signed with a Sydney dealer and will have it road transported to Brisbane.

It's clear to me the WK2 offers so much to a variety of 4x4 markets with this 1 machine. Jeep needs to get its act together down here if it wants to woo Toyota, GM, Ford, BMW, Merc etc faithfuls. Whilst the marketing has been quite clever, supply is another thing altogether.

From my observations most Jeep faithfuls will cling on for +6 months for their orders to eventuate but for the less faithful many will and have already fallen away for no other reason than the protracted delivery time. I, too at one point asked the question whether to jump but fortunately was in the right place at the right time and signed up with just over a month to wait.

Come on Jeep, get some more RHD units on your production line for the Australian market!

Anyhow, one thing is for sure, there will be an Inferno Red WK2 cruising the streets of Brisbane in approximately 2 weeks. It will be wrapped (sign writing) with our company details soon afterwards.

Mate I saw two WK2's on Ipswich Road today. Funny how you pick the jeeps out when you are on the road.

FYI there is a new Dealership opening on Ipswich Road, Salters Jeep. They have all the stock on the lot now, don't know if they are going to be doing servicing at that location.

I have only seen 3 in 6 months. 2 Black and one silver. They are as rare as rocking horse poo. All the Q7;s and X5's I see everyday are now common, I would prefer if supply was tight as they are rare and desirable. We also get the black interior and CRD that our beloved USA cousins cannot get....

It wasn't double vision was it? 2 in 1 day! It's been the bane of my driving existence these past few months trying to spot one! Good thing I don't play lotto eh!

You know, I saw something with Salters Jeep a few weeks ago and thought it was a mistake as Salters don't do Jeep. Clearly they do now! I think this may be a sign that others are taking Jeep a little more seriously which is good for us.

I might check them out on the weekend for stock but really for future servicing.

That's:
3 in 6 moths for you
1 in 3 months for me
2 in 1 day for Ultraelvis though I suspect this is a one off or a couple of test drivers from Salters Jeep in the same suburb.

I guess it's a 2 edged sword, rare = higher resale and servicing or popular = lower resale and servicing.

You're right, these days I bet there are more X5's on our roads than Holden's!

Hmm, They sure are few and far between...I travel between Sydney and Coffs every week and I think I've seen like 4 in total...Haven't seen one while I've been in mine yet but I reckon the friendly wave thing should be strong, driving past each other with dropped jaws....A funny thing is people keep telling me that they never knew "Jeeps looked like that" much nicer than they expected, and of course they are right!

Seen two only, both in Perth CBD in the last Month.

A Black one Parked and a Mineral Grey at the lights.

Both looked very nice and noticably different than other vehicles on the road.

Same here in Holland"...........have not seen one on the road. I know there are a few more ( from the forum). I know if you order one now it take a while before you get it. Most cars are dealer cars for testdrives. I like it, makes you feel you drive something special

I have only seen the one I test drove.

Have to keep looking at the pictures to remember what it looked like.

Have not seen the mineral grey yet either.

All the new Grand Cherokees are on vacation in the Redwoods in Northern California! I saw more in a few days camping in the woods than I have seen on the roads in the San Francisco area.
