Problematic 2011 JGC Overland vs. Later build new 2011 Overland

Hi,

I am getting my Overland 3.6 back today after spending 2 weeks+ at the dealer and having a new transfer case, rear shocks, gas tank, and rotors turned. It's a November build with 8800 miles. I am extremely disheartened by the quality of the car. I have asked the service people if there is a possibility of trading in my jeep for a later build. She is going to make sure the General Manager of the dealer knows my case and gets me the best of the best deal.

Does anyone have any idea if this is a good idea. At this point I'm sick of this car. One way or another i'm getting out of it, either into a new Grand Cherokee, giving Jeep one more try (not terribly excited) or going to BMW for a used X5.

I'm looking to only pay a couple thousand dollars at this point with incentives and financing rates currently low. Input is appreciated as long as it's helpful...

Sometimes you just get a lemon; happens will all makes and models. I would venture a guess that the great majority of Overland owners are more than happy with their Jeeps. I would also advise you to review what if any lemon laws you have in your state/country; at some point they have to take the vehicle back.

That's's what I did. Two weeks after my transfer case replacement I traded it. The dealer gave me a good deal. I went from a Limited to an Overland from a sept build to a march build. Go with the hemi you'll be a lot happier with it.

JP467 thank you for all your help. Not sure I'm going to go with the HEMI. I live in Boston so gas mileage is a factor for me. I had a Hemi in my 2006 and it was at the gas station every week. I only have to fill up every 2 1/2 weeks with the V6 and it's lighter than the Hemi. We will see. Going to look again on Saturday. Really did not want to spend my weekend doing this.

How has your dealer experience been? Just wondering since I'm from Mass...feel free to PM with any details.

Was the gas tank replacement for the sloshing problem?

What were the transfer case and rear shocks replaced for?

Were the rotors always out of round or did the problem develop after some time? I have not had any problems with the rotors on my Jeep yet but I have on other cars...

The dealer was Herb Chambers of Danvers. They have been great so far, Jeep has not. I called customer service and they dismissed me. They did replace the fuel tank because of the TSB but the sloshing I'm sure they heard was my cleaning kit. Rotors began to vibrate within the last 200 miles (8800 on the car). The last 100 were trips to the dealer.

The transfer case was replaced because there was an internal defect that cause a vibration/grinding/whirring noise at 5mph. Which lead to some other problems with my prop shafts etc. The rear shock was leaking and was replaced.

I'm a little concerned about replacing it with another jeep, opening up another can of worms, but i really don't feel confident in this car any longer. We will see how much help I get to keep me a happy customer at Herb Chambers.

Thanks for the info. I also purchased my Jeep at Herb Chambers but I get it serviced elsewhere because I'm not convenient to Danvers...

I've had a whirring/growling noise since new but it was only when cold...actually assumed that it was a normal sound since I had no other problems.

FWIW I have a list of things to be checked at this point but nothing is keeping me from driving the Jeep at this time.

Sorry JI4, sounds like you got a lemon. If Jeep isn't taking care of you, then don't blame you for looking elsewhere.

FWIW, I have an August 2010 build date with zero issues, my local service guys have also been surprisingly great.
