2012 Hemi MPG (16/22)?

Just getting around to looking at dealer websites for a 2012 GC and they have listed the MPG's for 4x4 Hemi at 16/22. That is a huge improvement.

Anyone that has taken delivery of a 2012 hemi confirm this?

That's not what the 2012 Grand Cherokee Hemi window stickers say. It's city mpg 13 / highway mpg 20.

I picked up a 2011 Overland 4x4 with the Hemi last week. June 2011 build. First full tank I struggled to get combined mpg of 16. I am hoping it gets better as it breaks in.

Well, then these folks better get their websites corrected...I guess I was getting too excited about the "change".

As usual, they are trying to pull a fast one!

hammick, i have the same configuration and build date and have averaged between 16-17.5 mpg (all by hand calc.). There is 2,200 miles on the odometer so the engine has been broken in.

While I am not an aggressive driver I also don't go for max fuel economy. I typically cruise between 80-85 mph for highway driving and flow of traffic for city. Some WOT but most is easy acceleration.

Do I wish that it had better fuel economy, yes but I expected no better than 20 mpg. Perhaps if my driving style was a bit more conservative.

NHman

I can get at least 21 MPG going 60 easy in my 2011.

Re: 2012 Hemi MPG (16/22)?

Drove 1200 freeway miles on my 2011 HEMI 4x4 Overland (May 2011 build) and got 20.8 mpg. This was on 89 gas, running adaptive cruise control set to 79 and hitting traffic in the LA grapevine area. I think this confirms the TSB (which I should have) makes it equal to the 2012...

At least thats what I'm telling myself since I decided on a 2011 instead of my original 2012 order =)

Re: 2012 Hemi MPG (16/22)?

I've had my 5/11 build Hemi Summit for one week and only have 400 miles on it. My commute is 4 miles of city/country driving to go to daycare then another 34 miles of highway driving with the flow of traffic at 60-80mph to get to work. Total round trip is 76 miles. I have yet to use the cruise control and commute with my wife so that's extra weight in the car.... but not much ;). The tires are at 36psi as recommended and I'm in the auto mode. The dealer filled it up with 87 octane and I got 19.4mpg for the first 228 miles, 3 days of commuting. With half a tank I put in 93 to get around a 90 octane mix and reset the mileage. The first day driving to work my mileage jumped up to 20.9 as has stayed there. It's not a long term test and the engine is not broken in yet but I've seen a little increase in mpg using 89 octane that more than offsets the extra cost.

I am satisfied but I am hoping to get just a little more once broken in. On my Mercedes GL550 the rating was 13/17 and I averaged over 20mpg going back and forth to work so I was hoping with 13/19 I would get closer to 22.

I have a K&N drop in filter getting delivered tomorrow and I've always seen a 5-10% increase in mileage with them on previous cars. In my experience the smaller the factory airbox the bigger difference it makes. The Mercedes used two filters with a total surface area of 142 square inches. The Jeep's filter is 85 square inches on a motor with similar ratings.

I'll keep posting my results.

For what it's worth, picked up our 5.7 Overland in April. Doing mostly "city" driving, it was getting between 11 & 12 MPG when new. Not very impressive. Just took it on a trip in July, and averaged almost 20 (19.8) MPG!

Much better. Hang in there. The fuel economy (if you want to call it that ) does most definitely improve as it breaks in.

If you are worried about mileage then don't buy a hemi!
