Projector Headlight Retrofit

So I finally got around to making a set of projector headlights.

I used TYC aftermarket headlights and Morimoto Mini H1 Projectors.

The TYC lights were very difficult to open, It took me 4 hours heating them at 300 for 10 minutes to get 3 minutes working time. I did that numerous times. I chewed up the bottom edge on one of them with the tools, But you can't see it with them mounted on the Jeep so I wasn't to concerned.

Also, once they were open I had to continue to bake the buckets and the lens individually to warm up the remaining sealant to remove it, My finger tips are burnt on both hands, It was a really shitty experience! haha

I bought 4300K H1 bulbs, and 6000k H1 bulbs to see which I like more. I liked the 4300k, But it didn't match my switchbacks very well so as of last night they are 6000k.

I chose to not paint anything, I like the OEM look they have. Marcus' headlights turned out so well that I was inspired to leave the orange reflector. I know it's not for everyone, and some might wonder why I did it this way, But I really like them. I have most of the chrome trim that came on my Limited still so they still match the theme, although black bezels wouldn't have looked bad either. Maybe one day if I dechrome the Jeep i'll open them up and paint them.

I sealed them with 3M windo-weld, and then skimmed the edges with GE clear Silicone II. Busted a couple of tabs, but it didn't seem to matter.

Thanks to 2for3 and everyone else that has done a write up on here. It helped a lot. I appreciate it!

I'll try to get some night shots of the cut-off tonight, for now it's day pics only. Enjoy!

Oh and before anyone says it, I know... The fog lights have to go. Next is going to be retrofiting Blazer mini sealed projectors in the stock fog housing. with 3000k bulbs.

Hell yeah. Nice man. Glad I could help.

The guide I wrote is plenty of help. If you need further help, don't be afraid to ask. When I'm PM'd on here, I get an email notification sent to my iPhone and I always use my iPhone to browse, post, and PM on the JG site.

Oh yeah, I'm Marcus. Lol. I also go by Bréyon.

Dammit. I just noticed tonight that my driver side headlight has some condensation in it.

Why me?!?!?! :(

It's raining out right now here, I'm hoping mine aren't going to leak, I don't wanna have to pull the bumper and open them up again! Shitty deal, dude!

There is a vent in the back. I know I sealed them like crazy. I don't know why they're doing this to me. Lol.

They never had any condensation before and have been through a lot of rain. I don't know what happened.

that blows. what did you use to seal them? i think i've read before about some people drilling a small hole in the bottom to take care of condensation...but not positive.

Re: Projector Headlight Retrofit

I drilled a small hole under my old headlights and the inside of the lens gets really ugly after a while.

I'm out here looking for a crack or something now. I just don't get why they held up for a while and now just start to condensate.

I guess I'll be buying another set off headlights if I can't figure this out.
