2011 or 2012 Overland? Paint choice consideration

First time poster - done a little research the last few weeks. I think the Overland (not Summit) is the choice for me.

I want Natural Pearl Green but it appears that the color has been discontinued for 2012 and there is a replacement due on November (dealer doesn't acknowledge this)... not sure what that new green will look like.

So..... it appears that a 2011 can be purchased for @$1,500 less than a 2012 given the rebate, the 2012 price bump, etc. Dealer has offered me a fair trade deal but a vehicle quote at invoice. Maybe there's some room there, should be I think. So if the difference is $2K does the 6 speed tranny (I want a Hemi) and a 2012 make sense? I should also add that I usually keep a vehicle 2 to 3 years so I think there could be a difference resale wise in my case.

However - if there really isn't a green for 2012 or the green is hideous, my decision is made for me - 2011.

Appreciate input/insights.

Thanks!

The 2012 6 speed is functionally the same as a May or later build 2011 or any 2011 after all TSBs are applied. Should not be a decision factor for you unless you think it will affect your resale value enough.

The 2011 Overland Hemi comes standard with rear Limited Slip Dif, the 2012 does not. If it makes any difference to you, in 2012 it looks like you must get an off road package.

Exactly. You have to get the ORAG II (Off Road Adventure Group II) package to get the ESLD (Electronic Limited Slip Differential) and QD II (Quadra Drive II). That will cost you another $995. Additionally, the 2011 V8 4X4 Overland comes with the ELSD and QD II. The HEMI option also increased by $200 from the 2011 to the 2012 due to the "new" 6-spd transmission that is functionally identical (same gear ratios confirmed) to late 2011 builds (on or after May 2nd) or those previous builds with the TSB applied. There is talk that a new torque converter was added to the 2012 so maybe that's the $200 HEMI option increase but it's absurd that the price went up considering they took the ELSD and QD II out of the V8 on the 4X4s.

Lastly, the Natural Green Pearl has been discontinued for 2012. The new green is called Dark Forest Green and will look considerably darker than the current Green so if you're in love with the color and you consider the other things mentioned, you should get the 2011 you're looking at.

Thank you for the input. The color issue alone is likely enough to push me to a 2011.

I plead ignorance to the ESLD (Electronic Limited Slip Differential) and QD II (Quadra Drive II) and how it will affect me.

But I'm thinking it's nice to have in a snowy climate and am thinking it helps me with boat towing. Is that fair to say?

Definitely get the Quadra Drive II and ELSD. It will help a lot in snow and rain and with towing. I'm not sure from your first post if you were saying you found a 2011 in Natural Green Pearl but he's quoting you invoice? If that's correct, then depending on what you're getting offered for your trade relative to KBB, you can get a much better deal. Most people buying 2011s are getting them for around $1500 below invoice before the $1000 rebate is applied.

Sounds like I have a little more negotiating to do! The offer on the table is invoice and then what I would consider a high trade in number for my trade. I expected $500.00 to $1K lower on my trade based on my research and numbers received from another Jeep dealer and a Ford dealer (checked out Explorers). High trade in numbers are nice here in NY as I also save 8% sales tax on the trade amount.

I'm thinking they won't move far given the trade number, but that doesn't stop me from trying and I think I can join the Tread Lightly organization for I think 1% off invoice - another @$400.00 that I believe has no bearing on the dealer (comes from Chrysler).

The other factor is to find one exactly has I want - the nearest one they located is several states away (e.g. 700 miles) unless I want the 430N radio. Maybe that lessens their ability to negotiate?!

Appreciate the help - I think this cemented me getting a 2011.

Here is another one at the dealer I bought my Summit from. BTW, I also went with the 2011 due to the ELSD and Quadra Drive II. In sport mode, with the right foot down, the car jumped to life against a Q7 and a RR Sport HSE. I had a nice grin...

I don't recommend my salesman, but I recommend another salesman (Gabrielle) who showed me the car's features, since my salesman had to leave early. Gabe was really professional and didn't act like a child.

Here is the window sticker for that car. (Note: It says Quadra Trac II on the window sticker, but that was a standard thing for 2011 even though 5.7L Overlands all came with the ELSD and Quadra Drive II.)

In the WK2, the difference between QT II and Quadradrive is the added limited slip rear and some software. They both use the identical QT II transfer case. So in some sense QD and ELSD are synonymous as far as feature set. They list QT II and QD separately as QD is an add on the QT II system, bot a replacement.

Thank you. Unfortunately it's missing two options that I want - 730N and more importantly the Advance Warning/Adaptive cruise options.

Here is a late May build (probably all updates applied at factory) with black interior with 730N and Advanced Warning Package. (Approx. 400 miles away)

VIN: 1J4RR6GT7BC675923

Window Sticker

That combination is absolutely beautiful just looking at it, classy!

I researched this pretty hard before I purchased my 2011 Overland Hemi about 10 days ago. I paid about $500 under invoice before the $1000 invoice was applied. I could have save an extra $1000 but would have required flying to Tennessee or Wisconsin and driving back. Wasn't worth the cost of the ticket and gas to me. Make sure you check Zag.com for the best price in your area.
