08 Mygig RER install in a 05 WK

Thought I would impart my experience installing the above radio/nav unit in my 05 WK. I purchased all the required parts to do the install. First, I got the Mygig RER. I also purchased the REC bezel from Jeep, mine cost $115.00 plus tax. I also bought the Lockpick v2.0 set. From www.oemautopartsco.com I bought the insert spacer bezel for $45.00 plus tax. I also bought a GPS antenna. Everything was bought from Ebay except the REC bezel. The removal of the original radio was very easy. Just pull the bezel off and remove 4 screws that hold the radio in and disconnect the gray multi plug and the antenna lead.

Here's where I had questions and was unable to get a definite answer online. The RER would not line up with the existing screw holes because of the alignment pins on the RER. Since I didn't want to do anything that might damage the radio or Jeep like drill new mounting holes, I searched the web for any info to mount the RER. Failing to get any definite info I decided to remove the two alignment pins from the RER. It then fit into the uppermost 4 screw holes once the pins were removed. I connected the GPS antenna, the Lockpick harness and the radio antenna adapter supplied with the Lockpick. Everything mounted perfectly and the RER is working great.

A note. Lockpicks are listed by versions. I bought v4.0 thinking it was the latest. It was the incorrect version for the 05 install. I needed v2.0. I exchanged harness with the seller and all installed well. If you are doing this install be sure you get the correct Lockpick. There are several. If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask.

I had the same problem with the pins and mentioned something about it on this site. I cut the pins and all is well, just like your setup.

Sounds like a good mod. I have a few questions:
--You previously had just the AM-FM-CD radio?
--Do you have satellite radio capability? If so, did you sign up?
--Do you have the UConnect blue tooth phone setup and/or does it have that capability?
--Do you know if the lockpick version for the 06 WK's is the same as the 05's?
--Do all functions of the radio/stereo/6-CD player, clock Nav. Unit, UConnect and Satellite radio work as advertised?
--Does the RER take a mapping DVD like the REC or ???

Thanks for the help. I am not too fond of the REC and any improvement would be great.

-No it does not use a disc
-Sat works flawlessly but you have to buy antenna or antenna adaptor(cheap)
-Yes you can upgrade from a RAQ/REN (check your sales code in the bottom right hand side (i think) of your radio)
-you want the lockpick ADAPTOR which is built specifically for this type of install

In summary to all of your questions, it works as advertised, just as if it came from the factory

Yes, I had the 6CD changer AM/FM radio. The RER, all RER's, have Sat capability as well as Uconnect and voice activation with the proper accessories. No, I have not activated the Sirius service. I plan on replacing my rearview mirror with a Uconnect/Voice connect unit to utilize those features in the future. The lockpick for the 06 and 07 should be the same as 05. The RER only has a single disc optical drive. In other words will accept only a single CD or DVD at a time. It will not store multiple discs. My RER's clock did not work after install. I had to install the clock fix software to get it working. From what I understand the RER was designed for the 08 GC's and later. The 08 GC's have a built in clock on the vehicle's computer, the 07's and earlier did not. In order to get the clock to work on earlier GC's the software tells the RER to use the GPS clock from the GPS signal to display time. My RER had the latest nav pgm and Gracenotes installed. If you want to update the maps and other stored data you will need to buy or aquire the latest software. HTH's

Also, the RER is capable of a rear camera feed. All you have to do is simply plug the camera in and hook up the camera's power supply. When the vehicle is put into reverse the camera will activate and the image will appear on the screen. Another feature of the Lockpick is the Nav unit can be accessed and addresses can be inputed while the vehicle is in motion. Also, it will play DVD's while the vehicle is in motion. Normally both these funtions will not work while moving.

I considered getting a REC but I really wanted the AUX in port but all the other features that the RER has over the REC makes it worth the effort.
