Another tech. question......

Can the traction control system, (i.e. computer nanny) be completely turned off in the WK1/Wk2?

Or does it automatically turn back on if it senses drifting or changes in slip angle?

The WK1 ESP can be completely turned off if you pull the abs pump fuse. But when you do that you also lose ABS. LOL

So is the answer no? In other words it can't be turned off?

I'm not sure, but I believe it definitely makes the vehicles a lot more squirrely. The one MAJOR rule of the SRT Track Experience is the ESP must NEVER be turned off when you drive. They know if it is, and if you do it, you are done for the day. They said it is the only way you can be booted from the experience. They have a stellar safety record (no crashes) and want to keep it that way (plus it is required by the bean counters for them to do the Event).

I asked the pro in the drive with them at the end and they said there is no way they can tell...But if they do find out, you will get booted. It's a bit of a scare tactic, but holds truth. There is no alarm that they have that tells when you take it off or anything like that.

However, I recall in some early video of Ralph Gilles saying you can completely turn off the traction control. But....I'll believe it when I see it. (Hopefully on Sept 7th) :D

hmmm, they have the new video recording system now that they said the Viper Competition Coupe series race cars (you carry a USB stick with you and plug it in each drive and the videos go right on it as you drive) have and I thought maybe they had it tied into that since it has a sensor to know when to record and such.

Not all the cars have the plugin camera and its just that, a camera. One is pointing at your face and one is pointing forward from the rearview mirror. If they were transmitting live you wouldn't need a USB flash drive either. I think if anything, they can just see and hear how the car/suv is cornering and accelerating. They see and hear them run almost every day.
However, I did personally see a forum member on here go totally sideways. In a 300 srt8 with traction control on. He may have been into the wall if it wasn't on.

Sary fir typoos .....tuochscrwens Sock!

Thanks for your kindness but you could have revealed the identity.

I won the autocross not only for our day....but had the lowest time of all 4 days this past June in Englishtown :) And of course, I pulled it off in the Jeep ;) After watching the pro's, my time was about .4 seconds slower than when they were taking the spectators for their rides.

Anyway...back to the original topic...

Same story exactly here, but I matched the pro's time around, except he hit cones! LOL.. (Silver is obviously the fastest, right Schlep and R.Palmer?)

Re: Another tech. question......

I think the reason they want the ESP on at the SRT experience is because they assume the average driver has no car control skills whatsoever, thus they want the computer on.....

Having the ESP off takes the driving experience to a whole new level..... you just have to make sure you don't hit any walls since the computer is not there to save you......:)

QuickOne, nice video, can't wait to run with you!
