Get inside the car lock it by the key fob, then open the door. If the alarm sounds, then you have one.

I just went through 2 days of headache trying to find answers why I couldn't install the factory security system when I have the factory remote start. Still boggles my mind .. why would a company have an alarm system that is not compatible with their remote start !!!

Logic....There is none.

On a more serious note, you could possibly get an aftermarket alarm system and have it be able to activate the factory RS system. I dont have any diagrams available to me at home but i can check at work. I've done it on other vehicles, not 100% sure how the jeep does its activation, i know i've done it in chevys.

Could always just put in a Viper 5901 or something of the sort. MUCH longer range, 2 way alarm system, shock sensor, possible glass breakage sensor, much more protection then ANY factory alarm system.

I have a viper system sittin on my bench that I removed from my Grand Am, but after a lot of research on the "net" i have read many stories about after market systems playing havoc with jeeps. Went down to the local Jeep dealership today and they cant even explain why the retail sites are saying not compatible. They are going to make calls and get back to me. Dealerships dont sell them anymore because the vehicle is past its prime apparently ...lol

I just had a viper 5101 installed on my 04 Overland that has factory alarm, all still works as it did before I had the remote start installed , now no getting in a cold vehicle at 5am in freezing weather.
