another trans thread ( i tried searching)

Sorry for another trans issue thread. After searching through 10 pages of trans problems i havent been able to find something resembling my issue so I figured id throw this out as a last ditch effort to save some money.

Bought my 2nd 02 overland a week ago from a dealership in iowa (im in wi) and drove it home 350 miles with no trans problems. the following day i dropped the pan and changed both filters and fluid. it shifted fine for a day, then one morning on the way to work it downshifted into 2nd or 3rd and stayed in that gear even from a dead spot. CEL came on p0700.. reset the code and investigated, it shifts fine until Overdrive, it tries to go into overdrive, fails with a horrible shake.. then goes into limp mode.
I changed both speed sensors, now it doesnt even attempt to go into overdrive.
I took it to a small 1 man shop and all he told me was that the problem might be electrical, or might be the trans. expect anywhere from $800- $2600 to fix it.

I dont know if its related or not but sometimes the turn signals do not work and the gas gauge does not work or read properly whenever it gets below 1/2 a tank.

the dealership here wants $250 just to hook it up to their scanner and diagnose the issue. so hopefully someone on here has had this same issue and can save me a little money.

I should also say that after i changed the speed sensors, it shifts from 1st to 2nd really hard at 3k rpms no matter how hard im on the throttle always 3k rpms. I dont think i feel another shift after that, at 55mph im at about 2500rpm in 2nd?

Unfourtunatly all your P0700 is saying is "interrogate the trans controller as there is a DTC present" of which generic scanners dont have the ability to do. The DRBIII at the dealer will.

How is your fluid level and what fluid did you use?

Typically with what I am about to say you would have loss of prime issues (delayed engagement type concerns), but I am concerned with the fact that it drove great for 350 miles and only lasted a day after dropping the pan. I would want to recheck the filters, I know there have been issues with the sump filter installation. Reguardless, unless you can find someone to pull the codes out of the TCM this could be a very expensive dart throwing excercise ;)

Good luck!

I used mopar atf+4 fluid. level is fine, was about a quart low the next morning but i topped it off.
I think before i take it in im going to pull the pan and make sure the sump filter sealed. Maybe I didnt push it in far enough and its sucking air somehow.
It had to be something i did because it was fine until i touched it.

Regarding the sump filter, be sure to install the seal first and push it in place with the butt end of a hammer or so and then install the filter. If you install the filter with the seal already installed on it, you have a big change that the seal will not fit securely and can come loose.

 Double what Frank said, my friend found this out the hard way in his truck, swore to me he got the seal right. We opened it up and it wasnt.... Good Luck I hope its something as easy as that! :)

funny thing is.. when i was changing my filters a friend who has alot more automotive experience than me said not to worry about replacing that seal, so i left the original in and just put the new filter on. Thinking this evening ill get a chance to take the pan off and look. ill probably end up buying a new filter because i tossed the new seal in the trash. I hope its something as simple as a seal.. id rather feel like a moron than spend a few grand
ill keep everyone posted

If you didnīt remove the old seal, i would not expect it to come loose now, unless it was unseated by removing the old filter. So still good idea to check this out.
Depending on how long ago the tranny fluid was changed, all kind of sludge could have settled in the valve body. New tranny fluid has strong cleaning action and can remove sludge, which can block small openings furtheron in the system.
Donīt say this is your problem, but just an idea.
If the filter seal is ok, then only a DRBIII scanner can tell you more about the problem.

dropped the pan again, changed the seal and fluid. problem not solved. looks like im going to have to take it in and have it scanned.
only good news at this point is the bottom of the pan was clean, i half expected to see clutch packs sitting in there.
anyway wish me luck

Sorry about your transmission problems.
I've heard of this happening on cars with 100k plus miles that have not had regular trans fluid changes. The sludge that was in a place where it was not causing any harm gets flushed to a place where it causes trouble after a fluid change and all of sudden the thing won't shift properly.
I hope they get resolved without too many $$$$ being spent.

good news i think.
Decided to check my cel's one last time before paying an arm at the dealership.
I finally got something useful:
Transmission fluid pressure sensor/ Switch D circuit range/ Performance.

anyone have an idea how i go about replacing this? or even where to buy 1?
