Parking lights - suggestions needed

I'd like to install some parking lights on my WK so that when I unlock the doors or lock the doors, external lights turn on and illuminate the vehicles surroundings so I can see better. Ideally, I'd like to make the hazzard/blinker lights that flash when you unlock and lock the vehicle, turn on and stay on for 15-30 seconds. This is what the 2003 Land Rover Discovery did and it worked great. However, I was thinking doing anything along those lines may be quite complicated, so I figured my best shot would be to tap into the interior lights power source and install some new external lights under the vehicle that power on and off with the interior lights. The only concern with this would be the exterior lights turning on if I were to turn the interior lights on at a traffic light or something, in which case, I could install a switch on the inside to turn the outside lights off.

Has anybody else done anything like this? If so, how'd you set it up? If not, do you guys have any alternative suggestions that would be easier/better? Thanks in advance for the responses.

Your jeep has an illuminated approach feature in the menu settings. You can have the headlights turn of for different intervals when unlocking the doors via the fob.

I can't do that because I'm using after market lights that aren't setup for that... nor can I set them up for that because of flickering issues that'll harm the ballasts.

Also, back when I had halogen lights, I never used them for external lighting because it doesn't serve the same purpose I'm looking for. The lights wouldn't light up the ground around the vehicle. And if you were walking towards your vehicle, you'd be walking into the headlights and they'd harm the view of your vehicle even more. The only time those would be beneficial is when my vehicle was in the garage with the garage door closed to where the light would reflect off and light up the room.

I know they make aftermarket remote modules that you can wire lights to, and then turn them on and off from a keyfob type device. That's about the only thing I can think of that will do what you want it to do. Wiring it up to your parking lights will obviously give you the problem of the puddle lights running when your headlamps are on. So you either have a 2nd remote, or a kill switch mounted inside like you mentioned in your first post.

Wire them to your interior lighting. Goes on with the remote and off with ignition and isn't tied to your running lights.

Edit: Just reread your first post and I see that was the original plan. As far as lighting, a member on another forum bought LED striplights that can be cut to length and placed them around the perimeter of the JEEP for use as rock lights. Looks really good. I was considering getting them for the same purpose as you.

Wow, those are perfect. Thanks for the link. I'll definitely look into it.
