Finally did it - I got my new Jeep

1 Attachment(s)
After having completely decided on not getting an SRT due to being priced outside what I was willing to pay for one, I got serious about getting an Overland.

Shortly after that I decided to get a Black Overland Summit with the V8. It took me a while to find one as they were in short supply in my area and it seemed that I was not the only one looking for that. Out or five dealerships listing what I wanted, I managed to get to one that hadn't sold theirs. I worked out the deal over the phone. I reluctantly traded in my '02 GC Limited and on the 19th I came home with my new WK2.

Having had it for a little over a week, I am in awe of this beast. It is hands down the best vehicle I have ever owned. The '02 was great, but this Summit is on another level. I love the black with the chrome rims, the saddle leather, the vented seats, the RHR nav system, the Quadra lift system, and on and on. I am extremely happy with it and I had a perpetual grin on my face for a week.:D

My coworkers love it; my neighbors love it, wow. One thing I find interesting is that the BMW, Range Rover, Mercedes crowd is also quite interested in it. This new Jeep get looks from them, some slow down and take a good look at it. One neighbor who has owned a Mercedes and now owns an X5, came over on the first day I had it and was just beside himself about how nice it was. When I come to a busy stop light and I am at the head of the line, I can see people from all the other sides just looking. It is one beautiful, head turning car.

The ride is phenomenal. I get a luxurious ride that handles really well in town and on the highway in the auto mode. I have not played with the sport setting yet. I have been getting around 13 in the city and 22 on the highway. The adaptive cruise control is something to experience.

That's my story. Thanks for reading.

Congrats on your new Jeep!

What would've been an acceptable price range for the SRT version? For me, it would be another $5-7k. The price gap from what I paid for my Overland w/ Hemi to an SRT is roughly $18k. To much of a gap. I'll be curious to see how well this model sells.

I was one of those potential X5 owners having owned a 335i vert but it was the value proposition for me. The JGC and specifically the Overland offers a lot of content and capability without "breaking the bank".

NHman

Agree, I used to own an X5 and for the price difference you are clearly getting not only a sexy car in the JGC but also a sexy but sporty vehicle. I had two Audis after owning a BMW and one of the reasons I gave up on the Germans is because I wanted a truly sportier looking SUV. Mine is an Overland with the chrome tubular sidesteps matched with the Brilliant Black exterior and the car truly stands out because of it. I see other 2011 JGC drivers slowing down or stopping beside me on the road really admiring the car. I'm sure some are saying that the sidesteps might not be for them. But, I'm pretty sure they're thinking, they wished they had the chrome sidesteps installed.

Sure, I still do find the X5 as a really good looking car but it drove terribly in the winter. I had a Honda CRV previous to the X5 and when I drove that car I never really thought about the snow or ice on the ground. Whereas with the X5 even with winter tires, I was always reminded there's snow or ice on the ground. I said the same thing with my two Audis. Let's see how my first JGC handles in the winter.

+1 on price difference. I think the new wk2 is an exceptional value. I have owned a LR for 14 years and, for the last few years, assumed i would get another rover when it was time to retire the pig. I was amazed at the quality of the new wk2, and while there are some things that i prefer on both vehicles, the 10-14k price difference made the difference.

Congrats brah!! you took the words outta my mouth the day i picked mine up...I have had my mineral gray overland V8 for a month now and I still cannot stop staring at it in my driveway and drooling...

Im gonna give you a tip you should take: Buy a drop in K&N filter...do not go CAI...that little forty dollar investment will get you 16mpg....I kid you not. I do not drive crazy but Im by no means a slow poke and I went from 13mpg to 16.2 mpg by just changing out the filter and not changing my driving style...well worth it

And you will probably be disappointed in the lack of "kick" when you stomp on her...I know I was like, "this is a hemi?"...the filter makes that lag a little better and you will feel it immediately. Enjoy it brah, im going get in mine now and ride...

Ive had my Summit for 3 weeks now and it is simply awesome. I love the somewhat flashiness of the interior and the accents on the exterior. Just gets enough attention. Summit all over again even if I had the choice to do it over...

Thanks guys.

@NHMan - Yeah, around 5-7K. I was prepared for a little over 50K for the SRT.

@olamaca - my '02 grand laughed at the snow. I fondly remember passing cars with chains with only my all season tires laughing all the way. The only thing to watch out for was the people who should not be out driving in the snow.

@cherokee4x4 - thanks for the tip, gonna get one as soon as I can make it to the auto parts store. 3 mpg increase sounds awesome!
