Oil Pan Replacement
I have a 99 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.7l. I need to replace the oil pan. I have read many different procedures that differ greatly. Has anyone actually done a replacement on this type of vehicle? If so, exactly how did you do it? Hopefully I do not have to remove the y pipe.

Re: Oil Pan Replacement
I replaced mine a few years ago, and once I finally got the exhaust unbolted it wasn't that bad. The tab that holds one of the exhaust bolts bent in, and they would just spin around. I had to take a small die grinder to the nut to get it out. After that it wasn't too bad. I don't recall seeing any way to get the pan out without taking the pipes off. I also had to remove the starter as I recall.

As long as the nuts come off easily, you should be in good luck.

Re: Oil Pan Replacement
Thanks for the good info Hamuel. Do you recall if you had to remove oil pickup tube?

I don't think I did, but I don't remember for sure.

Re: Oil Pan Replacement
There seems to be an issue with the 4.7 pans.I had to sand and repaint the one on the old Durango and also on my '04 GC already.WTF. Our '99 GC 4.0 with almost 230,000 mi on it has a pan that looks like new.
