06 Laredo Lighted Dash Question

I just purchased a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and when the lights are turned on at night - the lights around the fan and the temperature gauge do not light up. The lights on the steering wheel (cruise buttons, etc) do not light up either. Is that normal? I did not buy it from a Jeep dealership and they just tell me 'that's normal' but I have never seen that before. Please let me know if you drive a Laredo and if the temp and fan control gauges as well as the steering wheel buttons do not light up when your lights go on.
Thanks!

there are no lights on the steering wheel they are not supposed to light up. the lights on the temp controls should go on a common issues though is that these lights burn out there is no way to replace them besides to buy a new temp control unit, best place is ebay or car-part.com dealer will overcharge for this. its easy to swap out yourself too pull the middle bezel out and unplug it and plug the new one in

I have a 2005 WK Laredo with the same issue. The left half of the environmental controls were back-lit, but the right required me to push on the control panel face. I took off the panel cover to see if there were any loose connections (none found), but now I have no back-lighting. A dealer told me it was likely the entire control panel would need to be replaced to fix the problem. The steering wheel controls have never back-lit.

send a PM to diboblo

he repairs the lights with LEDs; way cheaper than buying a new part.

Your COMPLETELY misinformed so please learn what I'm about to say.
The Hvac bulbs are a simple fix, I just did it on saturday with mine. Got the 3 bulbs on amazon, all you do its take the hvac unit out, pry the tabs on all sides off and take the board out, you will see the three bulbs in their holders, I just touched a soldering iron to the tiny amount of solder on each side while pushing the holder to pop them up, remove old bulb, put new one it and resolder. Simple.
It is completely fixable on your own if you can use a soldering iron. If you don't wanna do it yourself diablo does some sick work with LED's and colors.

If you still have the amazon link for the bulbs, it would be greatly appreciated. I just did a few searches on amazon and couldn't find anything.

its great to do it yourself, but i would suggest diboblo. i replaced the lights twice in my hvac before sending it to bob. they are incandescant bulbs and they will continue to overheat and blow out. bob uses leds that will not overheat and they look awesome in the colors that he uses. his prices are great and he is very fast! shoot him a PM
