Holy crap... hope no one is planning on trading in their WK2

After months of disliking my WK2 (purchased in April), I was ready to move on and into something a little more of my liking. After talking numbers and everything, the highest we could come to on trade in value was $32k. I have a full loaded Limited 2wd, only missing air and adaptive cruise- $42k sticker. In 5 mths, its depreciated $10k. Ugh, well guess I will keep it. I would offer it for private sale, but I travel for a living so it makes selling that much more difficult. I could understand 10-15% but wouldn't think our vehicles would depreciate 25% in such a short time frame....

That doesn't seem too crazy considering I've seen many used 4x2 limiteds in the $33k-$36k when shopping.

Stuff drops fast bro. Its a fact of life, my dad got a 2ss 2010 Camaro for almost 23% of sticker with less then 500 miles on it. Its almost better to shop for used stuff with low miles just to save some money.

That seems about right. On a trade in the dealer is going to make at least a couple thousand if not more. Dealers make more on used cars than on new ones. You could get almost 10% off a new ones sticker price. What is it that you don't like about it other than it doesn't have 4WD?

i think one of the main reasons it depreciated fast is the fact that it is 2wd..when people think jeep, they usually want 4wd

That is a great deal. Remember you are buying it RETAIL and trading it in WHOLESALE, as the dealer needs to make their markup when they retail it again. The rule of thumb is a car will lose 30% value in the first 12 months, most of that loss is when you drive it out the door. Why would someone play near retail when they can buy it new for almost the same ?
I would bet any Euro model would suffer great er depreciation than your Jeep.

Yea id look at used cars with low miles before I bought anything new, if you look online theres alot of new models selling low with like 200 or less miles.

I got 36k for my 11 overland v6 4x4 w 15k miles, no additional options...so the value has more than held up in my part of the country.

Try another dealer or two. I found that you can shop trade in between dealers pretty effectively. If a dealer is going to sell the car/truck on their lot, the trade in will be much better than if they are just taking it to auction. I found the trade ins varied between 18K and 24K on my 2006 against a less than invoice friends and family price WK2.

I would never buy a used vehicle unless I really knew where it came from and why. Usually when someone gets rid of a car there's a reason. You to save a lot getting a lightly used new vehicle, but I don't want the headaches.

$32K trade for a 2WD? Sounds like a decent deal.
