How many RPM at 110KMH with Quadra-Drive or 3.45 axle with W5A580

Hi Folks,

I'm looking into buying a new diesel JGC Overland here in Australia

From the specs, the diesel uses the W5A580 five-speed automatic transmission, as does the Pentastar

Also, the Overland includes the Quadra-Drive II and a different 3.45 axle ratio, BTW is that only on the rear axle?
My question is what difference does the 3.45 axle make to the overall ratio?

So can anyone tell me from looking at their speedo, how many RPM the diesel (or Pentastar) with the 5 speed W5A580 and with the Quadra-Drive II (or Offroad Adventure pack) ie with the 3.45 axle ratio, how many RPM they are doing at 100 km/h or 110 km/h?

Much appreciated
Thanks

For my V6 with ORGII and 18" Michelins at about 36psi, in Drive (5th), I have:
100 kph (62mph) - 1,750 rpm
130 kph (81mph) - 2,300 rpm

AuSteve,
Note that ORG with the V6 will be Quadra-Trac II, not Quadra-Drive II which only comes with the V8.

Thanks Cherodude,

I wasn't aware of all the overseas configurations, including that the Pentastar isn't available with Quadra-drive II, but on your Overland with the V6 what axle ratio do you have?

According to my local dealer there aren't any Overlands or offroad adventure pack equipped diesels here to test drive

So I would like to get an idea of the impact that the 3.45 axle makes to RPM at cruising speeds like 100 or 110 kmh

I expect that cars with the 3.45 axle would be revving more than those without? By how much?

According to my Build Sheet the rear axle ratio is 3.06 on my Pentastar with QTII. I'm still checking for more info and will post if I find anything different.

QUATTRORUOTE made test in Italy for the OVERLAND CRD and says 2650rpm for 130Km/h, 4250rpm 208Km/h is VMax (in D)
So at 110 should be 2250rpm.
My Overland V8 is 2100rpm at 130Km/h

Hi, I had the same question so I did the maths and decided the standard Limited I test drove probably had the 3.45 diff anyhow. Looks like it is just under 50kph/1000 revs (maths said something like 48.8?).

Cheers

Jim

Re: How many RPM at 110KMH with Quadra-Drive or 3.45 axle with W5A580

Thanks Guys,

I worked out the speed/1000RPM in top gear, based on this website:
http://www.automobile-catalog.com/auta_details1.php

This site shows that a 2011, V6 with the Mercedes-Benz 5G-Tronic W5A580 gearbox has a speed per 1000rpm of 57.3 (km/h) in 5th gear with the standard 3.06 axle ratio

The Wheel circumference from that would be 2.43m

Plugging in the 3.45 ratio instead of 3.06 I got a speed per 1000rpm of 50.82 km/h in 5th gear

So RPM at:
100 km/h should = 1970 RPM
110 km/h = 2160 RPM
120 km/h = 2360rpm
130 km/h = 2560rpm

As long as my calc's aren't mistaken

Hey Pug303, yes around 50kmh/1000rpm, but a diesel Limited i test drove yesterday had an RPM of 1600RPM at a speed of 80kmh in 5th, which also seems to correlate to the 3.45 diff. Strange

Anyway V8 RPM sounds much better Franco, but Overland RPM seems ok
Thanks

Re: How many RPM at 110KMH with Quadra-Drive or 3.45 axle with W5A580

The math is simple if you know the formula...

1) Find your Overall Gear Ratio (OGR)
Transmission gear x Rear Gear = OGR

2) Find your RPM's using the OGR
SPEED x OGR x 336 / TIRE HEIGHT = RPM

SPEED SAFE, NICK
