Question about the power lift gate?
I have noticed that when I try to open the pwer lift gate by the handle and the key fob is in my pocket and the doors are locked the gate just beebs and will not open. I have to push the chrome button on the gate first then lift the handle and it will open. Is this normal? Shouldn't the gate reconize the key fob and allow me to open the gate without having to hit the chrome button?

Re: Question about the power lift gate?
^That is normal. It is the same protocol as the locked passenger doors, you need to touch those handles to unlock the vehicle first before the doors can be opened.

Re: Question about the power lift gate?
Ok, thanks Moose, so there is no sensor in the gate handle, like the front two doors?

Re: Question about the power lift gate?
Yes, no sensor on the rear handle. My guess is it would get too much road gunk so the button higher up is a bit cleaner. If the rear end is really filthy the Fob auto liftgate button and corresponding interior button on the driver's side rear panel work well.

Others have also suggested a fob proximity auto lock and unlock feature vs. the sensors on the door handles and the liftgate button, but in general, I am really pleased with the passive entry system overall. It's one of the features I didn't expect to use or value much, but the opposite is true.

Re: Question about the power lift gate?
BTW, when the jeep doors are unlocked first by any method (FOB, front doors, button on handle) the gate will open without complaint.
