1998 V8 Oil Capacity
Can someone confirm how many quarts of oil a '98 V8 Grand Chrokee Limited takes?

Re: 1998 V8 Oil Capacity
According to the manual I believe the V8 takes 5 quarts, but it could be 6 like most other jeep engines. Fill it with 5 and if its low after starting add another quart. One quart low for a short time won't hurt anything.

Re: 1998 V8 Oil Capacity
Yeah, I think it is 5. Reason I was asking, had the oil changed today (at a Jeep dealer no less), who swore it took six, after which I showed them the dipstick about 2 inches OVER the "Full" mark. They just insisted it took 6 and said the fact it was 2" over full on the dipstick wouldn't hurt anything. I left, went to Monro Muffler, had the oil drained, and re-filled so it was right at the top of the full mark on the dipstick. Without changing the filter, it took approximately 4.5 quarts. Called the dealer back, told him, and he still insisted it takes 6! :slapfight:

Well, did what I should have done in the first place and checked my manual. Keep in mind, this was AFTER THE DEALER INSISTED they put the correct amount of oil (6 quarts) in my car, and that I should ignore the fact that the dipstick was reading 2 INCHES ABOVE THE FULL MARK!! :slapfight:
