AC pump magnetic clutch

So, this weekend my AC died on me. This was strange because I recently serviced my AC system (cleaned it en filled it according to specs).

When I ask my AC to run; the middle of the pully doesn't turn with the pully (driven by the auxiliary belt). I changed the relais with the one of the wiper motor: still the same.
I used a jump wire between the 30 and 87 connection, still no difference.

This let to the conclusion that my magnetic clutch is shot.

Can I change or service the magnetic clutch or should I change the airco pump/compressor?

I assume that you have checked the fuse 21 (15A) in the PDC first?
You can change the clutch separately from the compressor.

As Frank said check the fuse first then pull the plug at the compressor and see if you have power there with the a/c on. Also if your charge is too low it wont run and you won't have power there.either.Make sure you check it with a gauge. If you do determine the clutch is bad It's easier and sometimes cheaper to get a clutch & compressor together as the clutch is extremely hard to find by itself and expensive. If buying used most salvage wont split them up anyway but you could do it yourself if you don't want to crack the lines. They're not hard to change with a good set of 90 degree snap ring pliers.

Re: AC pump magnetic clutch

The pressure in the A/C system shouldn´t be the problem Dave, because by jumping the relay points 30 to 87, the clutch is activated directly, independent of the A/C pressure. The A/C relay is switched by the PCM, and this yes depends on the pressure in the A/C system ( and more inputs).
Good idea though to check if voltage is available at the clutch connector, because when the fuse is ok, it could still be a wire problem.

Oops missed that part in his post .With that jumpered out there should be power up there if the fuse is good. Sorry buddie.
