While I am anxiously waiting ........

for my beast to be built and delivered, I was wondering about the reasons why people bought the SRT WK1 or they have placed a SRT WK2 order.....

Not interested in the differences between the two models, just the reasons why they were chosen over other marquis or models in the market......

Thanks.......

FWIW I have mine on order because I need a fun DD that could also tow and wouldn't cost a fortune or stand out in the office parking lot like the Cayenne T or BMW X5M....

plus I wanted to buy American for a change......

Great topic.
I bought mine because from the day the 5.9 limited came out I wanted it. I bought my first new vehicle in '98 (Black TJ Sahara edition ) and while my dealer was putting final papers together he let me take it for a Ride. Holy crap that thing was awesome in its day! MSRP was 41k and I thought you'd have to be "rich" to own something like that. Then they discontinued them and I thought I was out of luck. 2005 came around and I had just bought a new Titan and I couldn't sell my new Titan to get the New SRT8 so I had to wait till 2010. 100k miles and I get rid of my vehicles. I finally have my (5.9 limited ) yet it aged like a fine Scotch.

Sary fir typoos .....tuochscrwens Sock!

Re: While I am anxiously waiting ........

I've always wanted the WK1 since I first saw them in '06. I didn't have a "real" job then so it was just a dream. Since last year I've been looking at trading in my current car. Looked at a M5, S5, a few others and mainly a lightly used Jeep SRT8. Since I knew (or thought) the WK2s would be coming out in a little bit, I decided to wait and see what it turned out like. Been married for a few years now and as I'm sure most of you know, there's now that "clock" going... So a SUV is more realistic than a 2-door, rwd car and luckily my wife "approved" the WK2. So... that's why I'm here, waiting and waiting.

Coming from a BMW and I had planned to buy an X5 5.0i but gave the Jeep a test drive. It was the design that compelled me to consider it but the overall value made the decision easy for my to purchase an Overland w/ Hemi.

Since I do use it for business it does help in certain situations to have a Jeep vs. BMW or Audi (other choice). Just a lower profile. If I do upgrade to an SRT8 version, few people will notice the difference (from the Overland).

Doesn't Fiat own 52% of Chryco? However, it is built in Detroit.

I believe you are correct but no matter where the "ownership majority" is located, I still feel the company is what it makes (their market) nationality-wise and also where they physically make their vehicles as well.

They STARTED here, are certainly built here in the US, they look like US cars, have the heart and soul of a US company and the Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge brands/logos will be ever tied to America as long as I live. Although they do business overseas, I can never think of any of those brands with any Italian company haha . . . and Im Italian :D

Manchester United and Arsenal are owned by Americans....does that take away the fact they are 2 of the most storied football clubs in England's professional history? Are they no longer English?

Re: While I am anxiously waiting ........

I understand the statement of "buy American". It is just the point that it doesn't have the same meaning of many years ago (nor am I implying that DMD or anybody believes differently). Yes some of the profits are going to Fiat being the major share holder.

When you look at the other components to manufacturing a car, such as origin of components, assembly and design, is it American? For the WK2, 71% of the components come from U.S. and Canada. Assembly is in the U.S. The design of the interior & exterior, I don't know for sure but I suspect Fiat had a influence.

A M-B or BMW are considered a German car even though assembly could and design could be in the U.S. A similar statement can be made for a Toyota or Honda. It's just the reality of a global economy.

In general a Jeep or any Chryco product is considered American. However, what will the pending release of the Dodge branded Fiat 500 be called? American or other?

buying mine because I had an SRT8 08, traded it for a Camaro SS and miss my Jeep. One of the best cars I've had. I think the 12 looks more modern and updated than my old 08 and I think it will be even better than the wk1. I think I also like driving in a sporty SUV with more luxury options than a tiny camaro

Had the wk1 srt8 and am currently awaiting for the wk2 srt8,simple answer why the JEEP? Value ratio is better then the competition(Porsche,Bmw,Mercedes).+the noise from a NA engine can't be beat.

Re: While I am anxiously waiting ........

I wanted another sports car but we just had our first child . Also the R&T Charger I had got stuck in the snow 3 too many times the winter after I got it, so I had to choose an AWD/4wd vehicle.

In 2009 the difference in price between the limited/overland and the SRT8 was not $15k. I had a loaded 2005 ltd when the WK1 was released and figured the SRT8 must be "better" from everything I read. I ordered it without ever test driving one (could not find one to test drive). It is still rare enough that people comment on it all of the time. I did not buy it for this, but it is a nice bonus.

The WK1 SRT8 was/is a smokin' value :ftmfw:.
If the WK2 adds about 100 hp, new tranny and better 8.4nav screen it will be the same "smokin' value" as the WK1 SRT as long as it is not more than $70k loaded.

Re: While I am anxiously waiting ........

I bought my '06 because Ford discontinued their SVT program and was focusing on the GT500 only. They were supposed to make the SVT SportTrac. AWD with the Cobra S/C'd engine. That was going to cover everything I needed but they canceled it. I had heard about the SRT GC and started researching and it had everything that I wanted including the ability to tow what I have. So I went and drove one and bought it the next morning. Had to wait on the Mopar hitch for way too long but Curt had a hidden one that worked till the Class II came out.

Re: While I am anxiously waiting ........

Well I wanted one since my lease on my 04 WJ was up in 2006, I got into the showroom and there it was a 07 PX8 SRT8. I was going coo coo for cocoa puffs over it. Then reality struck in. They wanted 10k over sticker for it. So I made a deal on a 07 Overland. Leased that for 3 years. Let me tell you, every single day I thought about the SRT. I made a promise to myself I will have one, nothing is going to stop me. Fast forward to December 09, I went into Westbury Jeep and I signed a deal to finance a 2010 SRT Jeep for a 48 month term. This baby is mine! I love every day with this Jeep. I never get bored with it. With my Overland, I got bored real quick.

I bought the SRT Jeep because I wanted something fast but I wanted to keep the Utility part and have room to have a few people in the car. The SRT Jeep meets all my needs and wants and there is no reason for me to change the vehicle anytime soon.

Well maybe in 2 years I will add a WK2 SRT to the stable and keep the WK1 in storage. :)
