Not real burl wood?

I think Jeep has changed from real burl wood to some other wood like pine. If you look at early overlands they had the burl (swirl) wood the later overlands seem to be shipping with stripped wood that definitely isn't burl anymore.

What color is the portion above the wood? It looks black which wouldn't seem to be available in an Overland in the U.S. with a beige interior.

Yeah, that looks like a Limited interior, in which case it's the plastic stuff, not the real burl.

It doesn't even make sense to me anyway that they use fake wood. Why not offer brushed aluminum or satin black painted brushed aluminum? That would be nice.

Mine is a 2011 Overland, saddle interior, the door tops are also black leather. Seems right to me.

It must be the light in the picture. It is the brown leather trim of top of the doors. The limited's with the plastic trim all look like burl and don't have grain that looks like mine.

That is what is called "crotch" and it is still a desirable cut in woodworking. I cut around burls every day and throw it in the burn barrel lol

It is most certainly not Pine, or any other softwood for that matter. A Burl is a defect in the tree and occurs in almost every species of wood. But you will likely get 10 board feet of tight Burl to every 1000 board feet of lumber, if that..

I wouldn't expect to get a good looking piece of Burl in every Jeep.

You can see quite a bit of Western Big Leaf Maple burl, flame and quilt on some electric guitars.
Some good stuff here,

The chest at the bottom of page 16 blows me away.
