REC Cooling
I have been noticing that sometimes my REC gets picky when playing cds. Sometimes it will play a cd all day long then the next trip it wont. Im looking to buy one of those cds that have the brush on them to clean the laser. Im sure that will help as the laser is now 5 years old.

But one thing that I noticed is that my REC player gets HOT. Today it wasnt that warm outside. Like 70F and it was playing a cd for about 30 mins before it finally gave me an error. When I pulled the cd out it was hot. Is there a way to keep the cds cooler? Im sure thats why my cd player is giving me an error because it is overheating. Has anyone else experienced this at all with the REC.

Just to make it clear when I say the cd was hot it wasnt about to burn my skin hot but it definitely wasnt cool. Today when this happened it was also daylight so the REC screen didnt have its lights on. Dunno if that makes a difference at all.

Re: REC Cooling
Its a jeep thing as they say. It does also happen to alot of other factory radios. I've burned my hand several times on GM radios as well as a Ford or two.

No real cure, the lens cleaner MAY help, but i wouldn't bet on it. Usually i've found, when a radio is starting to get so hot your cds come out burning, its about time for a new deck.

Re: REC Cooling
Yeah back when I had the REC whenever I would take out a CD or touch the REC on top of it, with the dash removed, after it being on for a bit it would be very hot. I never had any problems though.

Re: REC Cooling
You may also start getting the DVD NOT RECOGNIZED error on the screen...

The REC is prone to overheating; often times, it's the cooling fan on the back of the unit.

When this goes, it will take out your Nav DVD with it, if not addressed.
