3.6 towing mpg

Hi everyone,
I'm considering the purchase of a new 2011 Grand Cherokee with the 3.6 as a daily driver and seasonal tow vehicle to pull my small 10' scotty camper that weighs about 2,000 lbs. Does anyone have any input on what kind of gas mileage I could expect towing a 2000 lb load at 65mph? I know it's tough to test stuff like this due to terrain and trailer type, but any real world experience would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Nathan

Re: 3.6 towing mpg

I am getting around 17-18 MPG on the highway towing my 12' pop-up camper (2000 lb empty, loaded maybe 2200 or so). I keep the transmission set on 4 which doesn't change the RPMs much but it keeps it from shifting on many of the hills in NH. The 3.6 pulls OK but I know it's working harder...but for the few times a season I do want to tow it does just fine.

I get about 16 with my 3,500 LBS "R-Pod" at around 60 - 65 MPH. I keep it in drive and on most of the highway it stays right around a comfortable 2,000 rpm and shifts to around 3,000 on grades.

Pulled a 2,500lb uhaul trailer this summer in NH (hilly).

Saw like 16mpg. Great recommendation above to lock down to 4th, to avoid frequent downshifting. I downshifted to 3 occasionally on some of the hills.

V6 Jeep was working, but as noted, for a few times per year towing like I have, this is just fine.

Good luck!

I was pulling one of these things - not exactly aerodynamic! :) ;)

~2K empty, then full of my son's stuff from his appartment.
