Fifth Gear not kicking in?

Since posting this thread, I took the Jeep out and scanned it going down the road and it IS in fact kicking into 5th gear! When using auto stick it goes directly from "4" to "D" though. Some people are saying that they go from "5" to "D"?

Today I changed my EGR, sparkplugs (champion coppers), seafoamed it, and changed to fresh mobile one 5w-20.

When I went on my test drive the MDS never once kicked in, but this is due to the battery being unhooked when I was replacing the plugs. The actual performance seems to be slightly increased.

I just read this: http://www.wkjeeps.com/wk_transm.htm

It says that it should go from "4" to "D". Some of the posts I have read say that it should go from "4" to "5" then to D.

I have a 2005 hemi and my autostick goes from 4 to D but I can tell you that the trans still shifts into 5th during normal driving.

Huh. didnt know it was DUAL OD.

I have seen posts about 4-5-D & 4-D as well. I have an '05 and it goes 4-D. I think it depends on the year. the only difference i could see is 5 would still be auto stick and D isn't http://serve.mysmiley.net/confused/confused0024.gif

for current gears on my 2008, my dashhawk reads 1-2-3-4-5 and of course P and N and R. No such thing as D. D is only something shown on the EVIC.

How do you use the autostick, I only see the 4 when I push the tow haul is that when you can shift the autostick. I also have to use the tow haul button to get my 2005 Hemi to shift going up a incline. Is my transmission screwed up or what.

Thanks

I think (correct me if I am wrong) the 05-07's with the 545RFE transmission do not have the "5" position (I know my 06 Hemi WK doesn't), just "4" and "D". The 08's and up have the "5" position. Surprisingly, neither of the tuners (SC and DS) add the "5" position with any of their tunes. Both tuners add the "5" position on my 05 Hemi LX with the NAG1 transmission. Personally, I seldom use it, so I don't really miss it on the WK. Mine shifts from 4th to 5th at ~60 mph. When I use the SC ATT app. I up that to ~64 mph. Also, both 4th and 5th are overdrive gears. A true autostick starts in 1st and does not upshift until you move the shift lever. You can short shift (quick upshift) if desired to get into a higher gear quicker. When you come to a stop it goes back to 1st, and you again have to manually upshift to the desired gear.

My 08 HEMI has 1-5 and D if that helps any. Sounds like the 05-07 HEMIs has 1-4 and then right to D.

Re: Fifth Gear not kicking in?

I thought the early (05-07) hemi's didn't have a real auto-stick feature, rather it allowed you to select the top gear.

For example, if in D, the transmission will choose which gear out of 1-5 is best.

If you use the 'autostick' and set it to '3', the transmission locks out 4 and 5, but will still shift through 1-3 as it sees best. Likewise for the remaining gears.

It works like a conventional trans shifter where you can select a lower gear, but it won't hold the gear you select.

This is not what the later 08 and up WKs do, where they will hold the gear you select until you select another, the revs hit the limiter, or it has to downshift to maintain driveability.

...At least that was my understanding...
